Description
Finis is a central figure in the story of Code:Realize -Guardian of Rebirth-, serving as the primary antagonist and the leader of the terrorist organization known as Twilight. His character is deeply tragic, rooted in an artificial origin and a desperate, unrequited longing for a father's love.
Background reveals that Finis is a homunculus, an artificial human created by the genius scientist Isaac Beckford. Isaac originally had two human children named Cardia and Finis who died. In his grief, he sought to recreate them, first creating numerous clones of his son. These homunculi, including the Finis seen in the story, were implanted with the memories of the deceased child, but they all failed to be the son Isaac had lost, each one waking up and not recognizing him as a father. After countless failed attempts to replicate his son, Isaac created a female homunculus, Cardia, to be the 666th experiment and serve as a vessel for the Horologium, a powerful philosopher's stone. Consequently, Finis views Cardia as his older sister, a dynamic based on the original human family's structure.
Personality-wise, Finis is initially portrayed as cold, cruel, and disturbingly fanatical. He is willing to cause mass destruction and kill without hesitation to achieve his goals, showing little regard for human life. However, beneath this villainous exterior is a deeply wounded individual driven by an intense inferiority complex and a desperate need for approval from his creator, Isaac Beckford. He is consumed by jealousy because Isaac showed favoritism towards Cardia, leaving Finis to feel replaceable and unloved. He views himself and Cardia not as people but as monsters and tools created for a purpose. Finis is defined by his devotion to his father, willing to enact the Code:Realize plan—a scheme to resurrect Isaac as a machine god and plunge the world into eternal war for scientific progress—simply to earn a word of praise.
In the story, Finis is the driving force of the conflict. He is relentless in his pursuit of Cardia, who is the key to completing his father's plan. As the leader of Twilight, he orchestrates attacks on London and stands as the primary obstacle for the protagonist, Cardia, and her allies led by Arsène Lupin. His role is that of a villain, but the narrative consistently hints at the tragedy of his existence.
Finis's key relationships are almost exclusively familial and tragic. His relationship with Isaac Beckford is the core of his character: a one-sided obsession where Finis gives everything to earn love from a father who sees him as nothing more than a failed experiment or a disposable tool. He is terrified that Isaac will inhabit one of his clone bodies, an act which would overwrite his own consciousness. The relationship with his sister, Cardia, is initially antagonistic and envious. Finis resents being the "failure" while she is the "masterpiece". Yet, his rivalry is also a cry for connection, as he calls her his sister and seeks to force a bond based on their shared, monstrous nature.
Character development for Finis is most pronounced in alternative storylines, particularly in the fan disc Future Blessings. While he shows little change in the main narrative, his own route explores what would happen if he were separated from his father's influence. When a particular Finis clone is discarded and cut off from the collective consciousness of the other clones, he is forced to think for himself for the first time. Through interactions with Cardia and her friends, he begins to question his purpose and develops a sense of individuality. He learns to act out of genuine care rather than programmed duty, ultimately rebelling against his father to save his sister. This development transforms him from a disposable puppet into a real person capable of his own will and emotions.
Finis possesses several notable abilities. As a homunculus, he is not a single individual but exists as a series of clones, all connected by a shared memory and consciousness. If one body dies or is killed, another clone can simply resume its functions, making him effectively immortal and disposable in his own eyes. He also commands Twilight, granting him access to advanced technology, armies of soldiers, and airships. Beyond his leadership, Finis has shown the ability to manipulate the poison within Cardia's body, specifically using a red gem to activate and increase its deadly power.
