Description
Koyomi Hidaka’s origins trace to his parents’ divorce at age seven, after which he resided with his father, a researcher at the Imaginary Science Research Institute studying parallel worlds. Haunted by grief following the death of his grandfather’s dog, Yuno, Koyomi encountered Shiori Satō, the institute director’s daughter, during a childhood visit. She revealed the IP capsule, a device permitting travel between realities, where he witnessed a world where Yuno lived but his grandfather perished. This duality awakened his understanding of intertwined consequences across timelines.

As adolescence deepened their bond into romance, their relationship fractured when their parents planned to marry, positioning them as step-siblings. Defying this fate, they fled via the IP capsule to a reality where their parents remained apart—only for Shiori to die in a traffic accident. In their native world, her consciousness detached from her comatose body, leaving it lifeless. This loss anchored Koyomi’s life to mastering parallel shifts and time manipulation to revive her.

Post-graduation, he joined the institute as a researcher, aided by Kazune Takigawa, an integral collaborator. Decades of obsession yielded breakthroughs in optional shifts, enabling precise navigation between worlds. He devised a temporal shift to a reality where he and Shiori never met, severing the chain leading to her death. The plan required erasing his consciousness, as their fates were inextricably linked. In old age, he initiated the shift, succumbing to brain death while ensuring Shiori’s survival in an altered timeline.

Decades later, an elderly Koyomi from a parallel world crossed paths with an aged Shiori at the site of her accident. Though their memories frayed, faint recognition lingered, suggesting echoes of their original connection.

Koyomi’s evolution from a mourning child to a tormented scientist mirrors themes of sacrifice, the ethics of reshaping existence, and the cascading impact of choices across realities. His struggle—clinging to the past or embracing new futures—culminates in prioritizing Shiori’s life over his own, resolving his arc with bittersweet finality.
