Description
Benedict Bleu is a young man who works as a mail carrier for the C.H. Postal Company. He is recognizable by his sandy-blond hair, which is spiky and short with longer strands framing one side of his face, and his vivid sky-blue eyes. His appearance is quite distinctive, as he often wears flashy clothing, including a loose shirt, tight leather pants held up by suspenders, and tall boots with decorative cross-shaped heels, which sets him apart from other employees who wear standard uniforms.

Benedict’s background is marked by a lack of a fixed past. He was originally a former mercenary and gladiator from a different continent, hailing from a place known as the Tower. During his childhood, he was held by an organization that trained him as a military asset, and he was forced to take drugs that erased most of his memories. The only clear recollection from his early life is that he has a younger sister. For a period, he traveled with a group of Romani people, learning to sing and dance, before becoming a mercenary. In his mercenary days, he was known by the epithet Blue, a reference to his eye color. His life changed when he fell into a trap set by a woman who resembled his sister, leaving him stripped of his money and clothes and left for dead in a desert. It was there that he was rescued by Claudia Hodgins, the future president of the C.H. Postal Company, who gave him the name Benedict, after a deity who protects travelers.

In terms of personality, Benedict presents a rough exterior. He is often blunt, short-tempered, and speaks his mind freely, even addressing his boss and close friend, Claudia Hodgins, with a casual and sometimes disrespectful tone. Despite his brash and uncouth manner, he is fundamentally kind-hearted and possesses a strong sense of responsibility. He can be surprisingly innocent and flustered in awkward situations, but also shows a protective and caring side, especially towards his colleagues. While he may come across as lazy or unconcerned, he is a diligent worker and a natural leader who is highly regarded by his male coworkers.

Benedict’s primary motivation is the search for his missing sister, the one memory that survived his memory loss. This personal quest drives much of his character arc. Within the story, his role is that of a founding member of the C.H. Postal Company, having been with the firm since its inception. He is an experienced mail carrier who takes his job seriously, even if his attitude suggests otherwise. He often takes on dangerous tasks that require his unique combat skills.

Benedict has several key relationships. He shares a deep bond with Claudia Hodgins, whom he rescued. Although he acts rudely towards him, Benedict holds immense gratitude for Hodgins, viewing him as a father figure. With his colleague Violet Evergarden, he forms a close, sibling-like relationship. He affectionately calls her Vi and acts as a protective older brother, guiding her in her work and personal growth. His dynamic with fellow employee Cattleya Baudelaire is characterized by constant, heated arguments, which are a common sight at the office. Despite this bickering, they are long-time partners who work well together, and their relationship is implied to be a romantic one. In the Gaiden story, he also becomes a mentor and teacher to a young girl named Taylor Bartlett.

Throughout the series, Benedict undergoes significant development. He transitions from a wandering mercenary with no memory and no home to a man who finds belonging and a family at the postal company. By the end of the story, he has grown into a more settled individual, eventually becoming the manager of a branch of the C.H. Postal Company, signifying his complete integration into this new life.

Benedict possesses notable abilities in combat. He is a highly skilled fighter, proficient in hand-to-hand combat, and is also adept at using firearms. His physical agility and strength are exceptional, making him a formidable asset in dangerous situations. His past as a gladiator and mercenary is evident in his capability to protect himself and his colleagues when the need arises.
