Description
Fanzell Kruger is a former commander of the Diamond Kingdom's army. He is a middle-aged man of average height with a slim but well-defined muscular build. He has medium-length, messy red hair, blue eyes, and a stubbled beard, giving him a somewhat rugged appearance. His typical attire consists of a white long-sleeved shirt, blue pants, brown boots, and a green coat.

In personality, Fanzell is generally easy-going and laid-back, though he has a peculiar and often embarrassing habit of being found undressed in front of others. Beneath this casual exterior, he is deeply caring and principled, showing genuine concern for his comrades and students. He is willing to put himself in dangerous situations to help those in need, such as when he insisted on accompanying Asta to the Witches' Forest despite the risks involved.

Fanzell's motivations stem from a strong moral objection to the methods of the Diamond Kingdom, which he found to be cruel and unethical, particularly regarding the manipulation and sacrifice of children for military power. Disgusted by these practices, he abandoned his prestigious post and fled the kingdom with his wife, Dominante Code, becoming a hunted fugitive in the process.

His role in the story is primarily that of a mentor and ally to the main protagonist, Asta. After fleeing the Diamond Kingdom, Fanzell encountered a young Asta and taught him the fundamentals of swordsmanship, which becomes a core part of Asta's fighting style. Fanzell later reappears in the main narrative during the Witches' Forest arc, where he helps Asta and his friends seek a cure for Asta's injured arms. He confronts the Diamond Kingdom army that has invaded the forest, facing his former students, Ladros and Mars, in battle.

Key relationships define much of Fanzell's history. Dominante Code is his wife and steadfast partner, having fled the Diamond Kingdom with him. Asta is perhaps his most significant student; Fanzell not only taught him swordsmanship but also inspired him with his values. He was an instructor to several powerful mages from the Diamond Kingdom, including Mars, Ladros, Fana, and Mariella, teaching them when they were children. Mariella was originally an assassin sent to capture Fanzell, but after being convinced by Asta to change her ways, she became Fanzell's student instead and joined his small family.

Fanzell's character development shows a man who has rejected a corrupt system and chosen to live by his own moral code. He transitions from a commander serving a ruthless kingdom to a fugitive mentor who protects and guides the next generation, seeking to atone for his past by helping others avoid similar fates. He demonstrates a caring and protective nature, especially towards his wife and students, and shows a willingness to fight against his former pupils not out of hatred, but to try and steer them toward a better path.

In terms of abilities, Fanzell is a highly skilled magic swordsman and a formidable combatant. He possesses a grimoire that grants him Wind Magic, which he uses with great proficiency. He can generate and manipulate wind for various effects, including creating weapons out of wind. His signature technique involves combining his wind magic with his swordsmanship, wrapping his broadsword in swirling wind to enhance its cutting power and launch long-range wind slashes. He is also capable of using Creation Magic to form objects from wind, Restraining Magic to bind opponents with whirlwinds, and Reinforcement Magic to boost his own physical strength and speed, showcasing the breadth of his combat experience. His years as a commander and instructor have made him a tactical and analytical fighter, able to read his opponents and the flow of battle effectively.
