Description
Gaja is a prominent character from the Heart Kingdom in the anime and manga Black Clover. He is one of the elite Spirit Guardians, a group of the kingdom's most powerful mages who serve as the royal protectors. As a Stage Zero mage, he possesses an immense amount of magic power and is considered the foremost fighter in the entire kingdom, with his strength being acknowledged even by the Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom.

Physically, Gaja is a tall and muscular man with spiky black hair and a distinctive white patch above his forehead. His most prominent feature is a large scar that runs from his left cheek down his neck, a wound he received half a year prior to the main story during a raid on the Heart Kingdom by Vanica Zogratis of the Spade Kingdom and the highest-ranking devil Megicula.

In terms of personality, Gaja is characterized by his calm, serious, and polite nature. He treats everyone with respect, regardless of their age or rank, and is known for his composed demeanor. Despite this politeness, he can be intensely determined and strict when necessary, once testing visiting Magic Knights with a mock battle to evaluate their skills, only to later apologize and explain his true intentions. His dedication to his duty is absolute, but his motivations are deeply personal. While he is fiercely loyal to the Heart Kingdom, his primary drive is his profound love for its queen, Lolopechka. He genuinely cares for her happiness, finding joy in seeing her make friends and act her age, and his desire to protect her as a person surpasses his duty to protect her as a monarch.

Gaja's role in the story becomes crucial when the Clover Kingdom sends Magic Knights to train in the Heart Kingdom to prepare for a war against the Spade Kingdom. He acts as an initial evaluator for the visiting knights, engaging them in a brief fight to gauge their capabilities. Subsequently, he becomes a key instructor, taking on the task of training Luck Voltia and helping to strengthen Asta and others. His motivation throughout this period is solely to prepare the allied forces to rescue Lolopechka and defend his homeland.

Gaja's development is marked by his unwavering resolve and sacrifice. During the Spade Kingdom's attack, he fights valiantly but is unable to prevent Lolopechka's kidnapping, suffering severe injuries in the process. He later returns to the battlefield, having mastered a new level of power. In the desperate fight to save Lolopechka from Megicula and Vanica, Gaja is mortally wounded by a cursed version of the queen he loves. Refusing to give up, he uses his ultimate technique, which expends all of his life force to land a devastating blow on the devil. Although he dies from this effort, he is temporarily revived by the magic of Rill Boismortier and later fully healed by Mimosa Vermillion. After recovering, he finally confesses his true feelings to Lolopechka, not as a guardian to his queen, but as a man to the woman he loves.

Gaja's key relationships are central to his character. His bond with Queen Lolopechka is the most significant, evolving from loyalty to a declaration of love. He also forms a strong mentor-student relationship with Luck Voltia, pushing him to grow stronger. He holds great respect for Mimosa Vermillion and works alongside allies like Noelle Silva in the fight against their common enemies.

As a fighter, Gaja wields Lightning Magic, which he can enhance into True Lightning Magic by borrowing the vast natural mana of the Heart Kingdom. This technique allows him to summon and manipulate real lightning from the sky. He is renowned for his incredible speed, claiming to be the fastest mage in the Heart Kingdom, and can levitate and fly without a broom. He utilizes runes, or magic symbols, drawn from natural mana to cast spells, and can inscribe them on his own body for powerful defensive purposes. His notable spells include Heavenly Thunder Sonic Dash, a powerful homing lightning ray; Body Electric Turbulence, which paralyzes an opponent by sending electricity into their head; and his ultimate sacrifice, Thunder Ultimate Magic, a massive beam of lightning so powerful it cannot be blocked but costs the user their life.
