Description
Baro is a rogue mage and a minor antagonist who appears during the Eye of the Midnight Sun Encounter arc. He is the older brother of another mage named Neige and is affiliated with the terrorist organization known as the Eye of the Midnight Sun, though his reasons for joining are purely self-serving.

Physically, Baro is depicted as a round, middle-aged man with long black hair, green eyes, and prominent lips. He typically wears navy blue clothing adorned with metal studs, a light grey scarf, and a pair of Windsor glasses which are actually a special tool for visualizing mana.

Baro's personality is defined by selfishness, greed, and cowardice. He is willing to commit horrific acts, including the torture of children, and is equally ready to betray his own allies if it means securing money for himself. Despite his affiliation with the Eye of the Midnight Sun, he does not believe in their cause and joined them solely out of greed. He is frequently abusive toward his younger brother Neige, insulting him when he makes mistakes and forcing him into dangerous situations, even when Neige has no chance of winning a fight. Baro displays a notable lack of remorse for his actions, once boasting about how he would have become rich from his crimes and dismissing the permanent loss of the children's magical abilities as their own problem. However, he is also shown to be quite cowardly, begging for mercy when his own life is threatened and offering no help to his injured brother. A flashback suggests that Baro may have been more compassionate in his childhood, as he once comforted a crying Neige by giving him a handmade mud doll.

Baro is hired by the scientist Sally to collect mana from children. To carry out this mission, he uses his brother Neige's snow magic to enchant the children of the town of Nairn, leading them into a cave laboratory. There, Baro uses special equipment to extract their mana in a process described as torturous, which permanently removes their ability to use magic. He shows a complete lack of concern for the well-being of his victims; when one child, Marco Scarlet, is found to have very little magic power, Baro throws him out of the cave to be left in the snow, endangering the boy's life.

When the Black Bulls members Asta and Gauche Adlai, along with Sister Theresa Rapual, arrive to rescue the children, Baro orders Neige to fight them. After Neige is easily defeated, Baro is confronted by Asta, who silences him with a swing of his sword. Baro secretly activates a signal device to call for reinforcements from the Eye of the Midnight Sun. When Sally arrives, Baro initially blames the Magic Knights for the lack of collected mana. He then offers to help her fight if she heals him and pays him, but his true intention is to take the money and escape, abandoning both Sally and his brother. Seeing through his plan, Sally injects him with a special serum that transforms him into a giant, rampaging mud monster. While this restores his mobility and increases his mana, the transformation causes him to lose much of his humanity, and he begins attacking indiscriminately, nearly crushing his own brother in the process. In this monstrous form, he proves difficult to defeat due to his regeneration abilities, but he is eventually destroyed by a combination of Asta's Anti-Magic slashes and Gauche's Mirror Magic. In the anime adaptation, Baro is defeated and destroyed by the magic device, leaving only his clothes behind.

Baro possesses Mud Magic, which allows him to generate and manipulate mud. He can shape this mud into various forms for offensive purposes. When transformed by Sally's serum, his mud powers are greatly enhanced, granting him a massive new body and the ability to regenerate from slashing attacks. However, this power comes at the cost of his reason and humanity. He also wears a pair of special glasses that allow him to visualize a person's mana and magic power, letting him assess his victims' potential before draining them. Additionally, he carries a small communication device given to him by the Eye of the Midnight Sun to call for backup.
