He serves as a Magic Knight in the Crimson Lion squad, the same order led by his older brother Fuegoleon Vermillion. Leopoldo has long, messy vermilion hair that he keeps in a partial braid, red markings around his turquoise eyes, and an energetic, hot-blooded demeanor. Unlike many royals, he carries no sense of class superiority; he sees his noble lineage not as a privilege but as a burden of expectation that he must actively earn the right to carry. His greatest motivation is to grow strong enough to stand beside his two legendary siblings—his disciplined brother Fuegoleon and his ferocious sister Mereoleona. Rather than resenting their brilliance, he channels their example into relentless training. Leopoldo is also deeply respectful of effort regardless of social status, and he declares Asta—a magicless peasant—his personal rival, a choice that quietly challenges the kingdom’s aristocratic prejudice. Throughout the story, Leopoldo experiences numerous early defeats: he is paralyzed during the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s assault on the capital, helpless when Fuegoleon falls into a magical coma, and pushed to exhaustion during the Elf Reincarnation crisis. These failures never discourage him; instead he treats them as fuel for self-improvement, an approach that aligns with the series’ themes of persistence over inherited talent. Over time, he refines his Fire Magic, mastering advanced techniques such as Array-based magic and Ultimate Fire Magic: Crimson Eruption, a spell he learns through brutal training under Dryad in the Forest of Elyusia. His role in the narrative is that of a supporting Magic Knight who bridges the gap between royalty and commoners, showing that true strength is defined by work, not birth. His key relationships include his older siblings, his cousins Mimosa and Kirsch Vermillion, and a friendly rivalry with Asta.
