Description
Dai Himi is a male member of the Antarctic expedition team’s setup or construction squad in A Place Further Than the Universe. He is a very large man with a quiet, gentle, and notably taciturn demeanor. Despite his imposing physical stature, his personality is shy and unassuming. He possesses a vivid and active imagination, which sets him apart from some of his more practically-minded colleagues.

His primary role within the story is as a supporting member of the adult expedition crew, contributing his physical strength and skills to the logistical tasks required for the journey. One of his most defining characteristics is his enthusiastic fandom of the teen idol Yuzuki Shiraishi, of whom he was a fan even before her participation in the expedition was confirmed. He is genuinely delighted when Yuzuki joins the team, but has firmly decided to maintain a respectful distance from her; he does not actively seek her out or attempt to speak to her directly. This decision reflects a respectful and self-aware side of his personality, as he admires her from afar without imposing on her personal space.

In terms of key relationships, Dai Himi is very close with his fellow crew member Toshio Zaizen. Their dynamic is often described as being like a comedy duo or an inseparable pair, suggesting a strong, playful camaraderie. He also plays a small but insightful role in social interactions with the team’s leader, Gin Tōdō. When Gin describes her preferred type of partner as a presence like a cloud, Dai Himi is able to intuitively understand the abstract meaning of her metaphor and explain it to the confused Toshio. This moment highlights his emotional intelligence and imaginative nature, even though his explanation fails to get through to his more literal-minded friend. While he does not undergo a major personal transformation, his consistent nature provides a stable presence within the expedition. His notable abilities include his physical capability for heavy construction work, as well as his keen imagination and ability to grasp subtle, conceptual ideas.
