Description
Himeka Otowa is the mother of Kanae Otowa and the wife of Kyougo Otowa. She is a supporting character who officially debuts in the second season of the anime, as she was absent during the first season and only mentioned as having left home. Her return to the Otowa household is a significant event, as her family initially believed she had abandoned them.
Himeka has a cheerful and loving disposition, but she is also notably ditzy and lacks common sense, a trait even remarked upon by characters like Beethoven. Her behavior is often erratic and driven by whimsical logic. For instance, her long absence was not due to leaving her family, but to a worldwide journey to find the perfect honey to make delicious food for her daughter. She is also incredibly lucky, frequently winning large sums of money through gambling at casinos and horse racing to fund her travels and activities.
Her primary motivation is the happiness and wellbeing of her daughter, Kanae, though her methods are often overbearing and unorthodox. She is especially fixated on finding Kanae a suitable husband, going so far as to scrutinize all the male tenants of the Otowa residence and forcing them into a "groom class" to correct their perceived flaws. She enjoys a close friendship with the Classicaloid Liszt, who affectionately calls her "Hime-chan". Her relationship with her family is generally positive; she loves her daughter and shares a partnership with her eccentric husband, eventually joining him on another journey.
In the story, Himeka acts as a chaotic but well-intentioned agent of change within the Otowa household. She is the one who brought the creature Sunshine to the home, having hatched it from an abandoned egg. She also orchestrates events for the residents, such as a sumo tournament organized because she felt Wataru looked lonely. She interacts with the various Classicaloids without much surprise, possibly because, as a former researcher like her husband before marriage, she has prior knowledge of them. Her role becomes more active in the second season's climax, where she works alongside her husband and daughter to help calm a rampaging Wagner. After these events, she leaves on another trip with her husband.
An interesting detail about her background is that she was a researcher prior to her marriage, suggesting a more intellectual past that contrasts with her seemingly carefree present. She also famously does not remember giving birth to Wataru, nonchalantly accepting the revelation that he is an artificial human.
Himeka demonstrates no special combat or musical abilities like the Classicaloids, but she possesses a remarkable talent for acquiring funds through gambling and an almost supernatural luck that allows her to avoid danger, such as the traps set around her own home.
