Description
Don Creek, often referred to by his epithets Don Krieg or the Pirate Fleet Admiral, is the captain of the Krieg Pirates and serves as a primary antagonist. His name, Krieg, is German for war, fitting a character who embodies ruthless military might. He hails from the East Blue, where he built a fearsome reputation not through honorable combat, but through relentless cunning and deception. This notoriety earned him the bounty of 17 million berries. His criminal career began with a treacherous act: he murdered a Marine officer, stole a naval vessel, and used its flag to enter ports under false pretenses before pillaging them. This pattern of betrayal extended to flying white flags of truce to ambush unsuspecting enemies, solidifying his status as the most infamous pirate in his home sea.

Don Kriegs personality is defined by cruelty, arrogance, and a cynical belief that victory justifies any means. He lives by the philosophy that the only thing necessary in a fight is a method of killing, equating brute force and deception with true power. He rules his massive fleet of 50 ships and 5,000 men through absolute fear and draconian intimidation, expecting unquestioning obedience and punishing hesitation or dissent with immediate death. Despite his strategic mind and ability to command a large organization, his numerous victories fostered an immense overconfidence that blinded him to his own limitations. He holds no loyalty to his subordinates, viewing them as disposable tools for achieving his goals. However, his motivation is singular and all-consuming: to conquer the Grand Line and solidify his dominance, a drive that ultimately proves to be his undoing.

Believing his armada to be invincible, Krieg set sail for the treacherous Grand Line. His ambition was shattered in only a week when his fleet encountered Dracule Mihawk, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Mihawk, the worlds greatest swordsman, single-handedly decimated Kriegs 50 ships, leaving only the flagship, the Dreadnought Sabre, to escape. The surviving 100 crew members, including Krieg, were left starving and adrift, fleeing back to the East Blue. In his moment of greatest weakness, Kriegs role in the story begins. His subordinate, Gin, leads him to the Baratie, a floating restaurant. There, the once-mighty pirate is reduced to a pitiful, starving wretch who begs for food, promising to leave peacefully. Yet, as soon as Sanji provides him with a meal, Kriegs true nature resurfaces. He attacks his benefactor and announces his intention to seize the Baratie as his new vessel, revealing that his gratitude was a mere performance. This sets him on a collision course with Monkey D. Luffy.

Key relationships define Kriegs interactions. His first mate, Gin the Demon Man, is fiercely loyal, yet Krieg repeatedly demonstrates a callous disregard for him, even attempting to murder him with a poison gas bomb for showing mercy to Sanji. This relationship highlights Kriegs inability to comprehend loyalty or gratitude, which he sees as weaknesses. His second mate, Pearl, known as the Iron Wall, is another powerful subordinate whose fighting style relies on overwhelming defense and fire-based attacks. In contrast, his enemy Dracule Mihawk barely acknowledges Krieg as a threat, having only attacked the fleet to pass the time. This utter dismissal is a profound insult to Kriegs pride. His rivalry with Luffy is central to his defeat; where Krieg relies on weapons and trickery, Luffy counters with sheer willpower and a refusal to accept defeat, ultimately shattering Kriegs golden armor and his ambitions on the Baraties deck.

Despite his defeat, Krieg does not perish. Knocked unconscious and carried away by Gin, he survived the encounter. Years later, he is seen again in the chaotic pirate haven of Hachinosu, having seemingly regained his strength and resumed his pirating career in the New World. He appears with a more refined appearance, donning glasses with a sharper jawline, though he retains his signature golden armor.

Don Kriegs notable abilities do not stem from a Devil Fruit power, but from his immense physical strength and a highly advanced, multi-functional golden battlesuit. This suit houses an arsenal of hidden weaponry, earning him a reputation as a one-man army. His arsenal includes a machine gun built into his shoulder pauldrons that fires massive stakes, a spiked cloak for defense, a flamethrower, and an explosive lance formed by joining the pauldrons together. He also deploys other devices like a steel net to trap opponents and grenades to destroy his opponents footing. His most devastating weapon is the MH5, a lethal poison gas bomb that he wields without regard for his own crew. While he was once considered the strongest pirate in the East Blue, his over-reliance on his arsenal and his dishonorable tactics ultimately prove to be a fragile foundation for true power in the face of unwavering determination.
