Description
Nana is a character in DARLING in the FRANXX who serves as a parasite manager for the organization APE. She is stationed at APE's combat headquarters and is responsible for overseeing the children, known as parasites, who live in the facility called Mistilteinn. Physically, Nana is a tall woman with long, wavy brownish-red hair that reaches her upper back and teal-green eyes. She wears the standard APE senior uniform.
Her personality is marked by a strong sense of duty and a caring nature. She is shown to be a very caring and loyal person, deeply committed to the safety and well-being of the parasites under her supervision. Despite her official role requiring strict adherence to APE's rules and regulations, she develops genuine affection for the children and often struggles to balance her professional obligations with her personal empathy.
Nana's motivations are rooted in her sense of responsibility and her growing attachment to the young pilots. Initially, she follows APE's protocols without question, but as the story progresses, her loyalty is tested. She experiences a breakdown, after which a new Nana replaces her—a version that initially lacks the warmth of the original. Over time, this new Nana begins to develop genuine kindness and compassion. During a critical crisis, she stands by her colleague Hachi, and their shared experience leads to a deeper bond between them. Eventually, they decide to watch over humanity together.
Nana's role in the story is primarily that of a supervisor and caretaker for the main squad, known as Squad 13. She monitors their training, physical health, and emotional state, often acting as a maternal figure. Her key relationships include Hachi, with whom she works closely, and the individual parasites, particularly the members of Squad 13. Through her interactions, she evolves from a detached administrator into a more emotionally invested guardian.
Notable abilities include her expertise in managing and overseeing the parasites, as well as her capacity for observation and organization. She does not pilot a Franxx herself, but her administrative and supportive functions are crucial to the operation of the squad.
