Description
Haruna Wakazato is a character from The Idolm@ster SideM, where he is part of the high school band unit High×Joker, serving as the drummer. He is 18 years old, making him the eldest member of his unit, a distinction that comes from having been held back in school twice. His birthday is March 30th, and he stands 173 centimeters tall.

Despite the academic struggles that have delayed his graduation, Haruna has a sweet and curious personality. He is known for being a sociable and cheerful boy who approaches life with a positive outlook, encapsulated by his motto that if there is nothing fun, one should make it themselves. He has a well-documented love for food, particularly sweets like donuts, which he often carries or eats. While he dislikes coffee, a preference he jokingly blames on a fellow band member, he is not timid about speaking with others and is notably capable of holding conversations in English with foreigners, a skill he developed through such interactions.

His primary motivation for becoming an idol is rooted in a practical need to improve his academic standing. He joined High×Joker in hopes that his club activities would help compensate for his poor grades, allowing him to avoid being held back for a third time and finally graduate. This goal is intertwined with his sense of responsibility toward his family. Haruna lives with his mother and has taken on numerous part-time jobs to support them, including work as a security guard and a construction site worker, which has earned him a reputation as a hardworking individual facing a difficult situation.

Within the story and his role at 315 Production, Haruna is defined by his position as the light music club drummer. Although he is the eldest, he is often the one who needs academic support, particularly from his bandmate Jun Fuyumi, who helps him study. However, his age also brings some maturity; he is looked up to by younger members and is known to be good at teaching practical skills like how to use camping gear. His relationship with his unit is also marked by a quiet irony: while he is frequently teased for his lack of focus or having his donuts confiscated, Jun has acknowledged that Haruna is genuinely cool as long as he remains silent.

In terms of development, Haruna balances his life as an idol with his heavy workload and academic responsibilities. He is shown to be genuinely concerned about falling behind and becoming a burden, but he channels that concern into effort rather than despair. He has a close bond with other sweet-loving idols as a member of the Sweets Alliance. Although he is the drummer and typically stationary, Haruna possesses notable abilities in dance and often leads the group in physically demanding jobs. He is also skilled at doing hair and makeup, a talent he developed by helping his mother, which he sometimes practices on other idols.
