Description
Elaine is a fairy and the younger sister of King, the Fairy King whose real name is Harlequin. Born from the Sacred Tree over a thousand years ago, she has served as the guardian of the Fountain of Life, the source of the Fairy King's Forest. Despite her youthful and delicate appearance, standing only 150 centimeters tall, she is approximately 1,100 years old. Her small stature and gentle features belie a resilient spirit forged by centuries of solitude.
In terms of personality, Elaine is kind, gentle, and deeply caring, but centuries of isolation have made her wary and distant towards outsiders, particularly humans. For 700 years, she single-handedly protected the Fountain of Life, driving away countless intruders who sought its immortality-granting waters. This long period of loneliness and constant vigilance led her to develop a negative view of humanity, perceiving them as greedy and treacherous. However, beneath this cautious exterior lies a loving and straightforward individual capable of profound devotion. Her primary motivation is to protect the forest and the fountain she was entrusted with, a duty she took on after her brother disappeared. This sense of responsibility is her driving force, but her ultimate desire, shaped by her love for Ban, is to break free from her solitude and experience the world with him.
Elaine's role in the story is pivotal, primarily as the catalyst for Ban's immortality and a key figure in the emotional development of both Ban and King. After her brother left, she became the de facto protector of the Fairy King's Forest, a role she maintained for centuries. Her fate changes dramatically twenty years before the main events, when she meets the human bandit Ban. Initially hostile, she soon discovers his pure heart, and the two fall in love. Her love for Ban ultimately leads to her sacrifice; when a Red Demon attacks the forest, a mortally wounded Elaine gives the Fountain of Life to Ban, granting him immortality and dying in his arms. After her death, her soul resides in the Capital of the Dead, where she later helps reconcile the rift between her brother King and Ban. She is later imperfectly resurrected by the demon Melascula, which allows her to travel with Ban and fight alongside the Seven Deadly Sins.
Her key relationships define her character arc. The bond with her brother King is one of deep respect and affection, and her sacrifice is a primary source of King's grief and anger toward Ban. Her relationship with Ban is the most central, evolving from wary suspicion to a deep, all-consuming love. She sacrifices everything for him, and after her resurrection, her primary goal is to remain by his side. She also forms a bond with the human knight Jericho, who helps Elaine see that kindness can exist in humanity beyond Ban.
Elaine develops significantly throughout the story, beginning as a solitary and duty-bound guardian and transforming into a woman driven by love and personal desire. The most notable change is her emotional and power-based evolution. Initially lacking them, she finally manifests her fairy wings, a sign of a fairy's full maturity and power, which is triggered by the strength of her love for Ban. Her ultimate fate is to be truly resurrected as a human when Ban sacrifices the immortality she gave him, allowing them to finally live a full life together. After the final battles, she marries Ban and they settle in the town of Benwick, where they have a son named Lancelot.
Regarding her abilities, Elaine is a powerful fairy, considered one of the strongest of her kind after her brother. She has a natural affinity for wind magic, with her primary power known as Miracle Wind. This magic allows her to manipulate air currents in various ways, from creating powerful gusts to knock back enemies, to using techniques like Tempest Fall, which summons enormous tornadoes, and Full Gale Fury, which unleashes blasts potent enough to repel demons. Her magic can also inflict additional effects on her targets, such as paralysis or poison. Like all fairies, she possesses innate abilities such as flight without the need for wings, telekinesis, and the capacity to read the hearts and intentions of others. Her combat class is relatively low before awakening her wings, but upon their appearance, her magical power and spirit increase dramatically, making her a formidable fighter.
