Description
Iroha Gojou, originally named Iroha Yoshino, is a prominent figure in her world who currently serves as the president of Heijou Institute and is recognized as one of the heads of the Five Schools. In terms of appearance, she is a woman with long black hair typically tied into a loose bun, with her bangs split on either side of her face. Her green eyes accompany a face that is almost always set in a relaxed smile. She adopts a traditional Japanese look, often wearing a pale-green kimono with a black obi and a purple haori that features the embroidered crest of Heijou Institute.
Her personality stands in contrast to the formal responsibilities of her high-ranking position. Iroha is notably laid-back and has a habit of using the honorific "chan" for nearly everyone, including her fellow school presidents and other authority figures, demonstrating her casual and unfazed demeanor. She remains calm under pressure and is known for her ability to make sound decisions in any situation. However, despite her typically gentle and relaxed exterior, she has a tendency to startle those around her with the occasional scathing remark.
The background of Iroha is deeply tied to a catastrophic event from twenty years prior to the main storyline, when a Great Aradama appeared and caused widespread disaster. As a student at Renpu Girls School, she fought alongside her friends in the battle against this immense creature. When the situation became dire, she followed orders to retreat with her injured comrade Yukina Takatsu. Following the vanquishing of the Great Aradama, Iroha was appointed as one of the heroes of the event and, two years later, assumed the presidency of Heijou Institute, a position she continues to hold.
In her role within the story, Iroha acts as a figure of authority and leadership. She is responsible for training many Toji who possess potential abilities, excelling in guiding the next generation of sword wielders. When news broke of a major attack, she traveled to the headquarters of the Special Sword Administration Bureau to address the situation concerning her students and later joined other school presidents in the search for specific individuals. Her motivations stem from her past experiences during the great disaster, and she is driven to maintain order and train new fighters to prevent similar tragedies and manage current threats.
Her key relationships include her fellow school presidents and former comrades. She shares a notable connection with Yukina Takatsu, a friend from the battle twenty years ago, and works alongside Ema Hashima, her counterpart from Minoseki Academy. Regarding her development, Iroha has transitioned from an active combatant to a strategic leader and administrator. While she was a strong Toji in her youth and one of the six heroes who helped vanquish the Great Aradama, she currently lives as a normal woman, having set aside her active combat duties. As for notable abilities, her primary strength lies in her exceptional leadership and her talent for recognizing and cultivating the abilities of potential Toji, rather than her own direct combat prowess in the present day.
