Description
Motofumi Mashiko is a supporting character in the anime Libra of Nil Admirari, which is adapted from the otome game Nil Admirari no Tenbin: Teito Genwaku Kitan. He is a member of the Imperial Library Information Assets Management Bureau, an organization commonly referred to as Fukurou. This bureau specializes in collecting and analyzing rare and dangerous books known as Maremono, which possess the power to influence their readers and cause self-harm or other tragic outcomes. Mashiko himself has the unique ability to see the auras emitted by these cursed books, a skill that proves invaluable to the bureau’s operations.

Mashiko is depicted as a calm, rational, and highly observant individual. He approaches his work with a serious demeanor and a strong sense of duty, often acting as a voice of reason among his colleagues. He is intelligent and well-trained in his role as an agent, taking his responsibilities seriously. Despite his outwardly composed nature, he carries a deep emotional wound from the past. He was a close friend of Yasuhiko, the husband of Shiori Tokinomiya, who is a supervisor within the bureau. Yasuhiko’s death weighs heavily on Mashiko, and he harbors regret over not being able to help him, a sentiment that influences his dedication to preventing similar tragedies.

In the story, Mashiko works alongside the protagonist, Tsugumi Kuze, after she joins the bureau following her brother’s attempted suicide caused by a Maremono. He becomes one of her key allies, providing support and guidance as she learns to navigate the dangers of cursed books and the conflicts surrounding them. His role is that of a loyal and capable team member, contributing to missions and investigations. His relationship with Tsugumi develops into a bond of mutual trust and respect as they uncover the mysteries behind the Maremono and the group known as Kagutsuchi, which seeks to destroy such books.

Mashiko’s notable ability is his capacity to perceive the auras of Maremono, allowing him to identify cursed books and assess their level of danger. This power sets him apart as a valuable asset within the bureau. His background as a friend of Yasuhiko provides a personal motivation for his actions, driving him to protect others from the harm that books can cause. Throughout the series, Mashiko remains a steady and reliable presence, though his internal grief and resolve occasionally surface, adding depth to his character. His development is tied to his growing partnership with Tsugumi and his efforts to come to terms with his past failure. He is portrayed as an adult male, with blonde hair and a reserved appearance, and he is deeply committed to the bureau’s mission of safeguarding the public from the influence of dangerous tomes.
