ONA
Description
Kyouka Kagami is a central figure in the world of Sword Gai: The Animation, serving as a commander within the Shoshidai, the organization responsible for controlling and eliminating Armed Demons. She is a composed, intelligent, and strikingly beautiful woman, often seen wearing glasses that contribute to her image of cool, analytical authority. While she manages the deployment of Chrysalis weapon users and the fight against monstrous Busoma with strict rationality, she is far from heartless and is respected by colleagues such as Seiya Ichijo and Sayaka Ogata. Her background is marked by a formative childhood event where she was saved by Seiya Ichijo, which forges a deep, special connection to him that occasionally unsettles her otherwise unshakeable composure.

Kyouka's personality is defined by a sharp, analytical mind and a quiet compassion for her comrades. She values duty and keeps her emotions in check when making professional decisions, yet displays fierce loyalty and deep feeling, especially when those she cares about are endangered, even if it risks her own status. In her role within the Shoshidai, she is responsible for commanding operations against Armed Demons and managing the users of Chrysalis weapons. Her primary motivation in the story, as depicted in the anime adaptation, centers on saving her father, Takuma Miura, who has been transformed into an Armed Demon. Defying her superiors, she steals the unfinished Prismaphon device and uses it to restore her father to human form, an act of rebellion born of familial love.

Key relationships drive much of Kyouka's development and her ultimate tragic fate. Her bond with her father, Takuma Miura, is the core of her anime storyline, pushing her to commit treason in a desperate attempt to save him. Her relationship with Seiya Ichijo is more prominent in the original manga, where her childhood rescue at his hands leads to deep feelings for him; however, the anime downplays this romantic angle, portraying their connection more as one of mutual respect. Her tragic trajectory culminates when, after briefly reuniting with a humanized Takuma, both are arrested for rebellion. In the ensuing struggle, she is shot, and her father, overwhelmed once more by the demon Zort Gane, fatally wounds her. As she dies, she dreams of being left behind by her father, marking a poignant end to her desperate struggle. In the manga version, after being stripped of her position and subjected to cruel experiments, she is transformed into a monstrous Pronimov and ultimately killed by Seiya, who has himself become an Armed Demon.

Notable abilities include her strategic acumen and her role as an effective commander, but she does not wield a Chrysalis or possess superhuman combat abilities in the same way as the series' primary fighters. Her strength lies in her intellect, her leadership, and the force of her will, which drives her to make courageous and ultimately self-destructive choices for the sake of her loved ones.
