Description
Messemon is a Standard-grade Appmon from the anime Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. Its classification is a Message Appmon, and it possesses the ability to send and receive messages. A distinctive feature of Messemon is that it has three separate bodies, each represented by a different color and emotional expression: a green head that symbolizes happiness, a red head that conveys anger, and a blue head that indicates sadness. Despite having three physical forms, all three bodies share a single consciousness and operate as one unified mind.

Messemon first appears very early in the series, having been infected by the L-Virus, a malicious program that distorts Appmon behavior. Under the virus’s influence, Messemon goes on a rampage by accessing people’s phones and broadcasting their private, embarrassing messages and posts, causing widespread chaos and humiliation. In this state, it acts as an antagonist, driven by the virus’s directive to cause disruption rather than by any personal malice. The main protagonist, Haru Shinkai, along with his partner Gatchmon, confronts and defeats Messemon. The battle ends with Messemon being purified from the virus, after which its Appmon Chip is obtained.

Once purified, Messemon becomes a cooperative ally. Shortly afterward, Gatchmon performs his first Applink with Messemon, a fusion technique that combines their abilities to create a stronger form. Messemon later participates in the Appmon Ranking Championship held in the Cyber Arena, where it competes alongside other Appmon. It also appears to warmly greet its doppelganger Puzzlemon at some point, indicating a friendlier disposition after its initial hostile episode.

Messemon’s role in the story is primarily that of an early threat introduced to demonstrate the dangers of the L-Virus and to establish the mechanics of Applink and purification. Its character development moves from being a mindlessly destructive enemy to a harmless and helpful entity that contributes to the heroes’ cause. In terms of key relationships, its most significant bond is with Gatchmon, who purifies it and later uses its power in combat. It also has a connection to Haru as the one who defeats it.

Notable abilities include its signature attack called Message Flood, which fires off a volley of texting bubbles at opponents. Because it is an Appmon, Messemon can also form Applinks with other compatible Appmon, allowing them to temporarily fuse and gain enhanced capabilities. Overall, Messemon serves as an introductory antagonist that helps establish the series’ core conflicts and gameplay elements, before settling into a minor supporting role.
