Description
Beautymon is a character from the anime Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, where it serves as a member of the Ultimate 4, an elite group of powerful Appmon serving under the malevolent artificial intelligence Leviathan. As its name suggests, Beautymon embodies the concept of beauty, and its Application is specifically Beauty, classifying it as a Life-type Appmon of the Ultimate grade. Its physical appearance is angelic and striking, featuring long pink hair, a grey armored bodysuit, a mask that covers part of its face, and two distinct pairs of wings, one white and one black. It carries a rod-like weapon called the Venus Rod and a small round shield, presenting an overall elegant and formidable silhouette.
In terms of personality, Beautymon is defined by an overwhelming and obsessive pride in its own beauty. It is extraordinarily vain, believing its appearance, sublime voice, and graceful mannerisms to be superior to all others. This pride, however, masks a deep insecurity and a volatile temper. Beautymon becomes easily enraged by any challenge to its status as the most beautiful being, reacting with hysterical outbursts and petty cruelty when its vanity is threatened. Its obsession with appearance is all-consuming, to the point where it cannot comprehend anyone facing a battle without proper makeup, which it equates to facing an army without armor.
As a loyal subordinate of Leviathan, Beautymon is initially ordered to assist the human CEO Unryuji Knight in eliminating the Appli Drivers, a group of humans and their partner Appmon fighting against Leviathan's plans. Its primary role in the story is that of an antagonist, specifically serving as a rival to the idol Eri Karan and her partner Appmon, Oujamon. This rivalry is deeply personal, stemming from Beautymon's perception of Eri as a competitor in beauty. During an early confrontation, after receiving a power boost from an L Code, Beautymon brutally defeats Oujamon, dealing a severe emotional blow to Eri.
This defeat sets the stage for a decisive rematch. In a later episode, the Appli Drivers confront the Ultimate 4 again. Eri chooses to face Beautymon alone, entering the Appmon's personalized AR field known as Beauty Palace. True to its nature, Beautymon is initially horrified that Eri has come without makeup and forcibly subjects her to a complete beauty treatment, dousing her in lotions and applying a full face of cosmetics. After this bizarre interlude, Beautymon consults a magical mirror to ask who is the fairest of them all. When the mirror answers that Eri is more beautiful, Beautymon flies into a rage, destroys the mirror, and attacks. However, Eri and Oujamon have grown stronger, and using the power of the Appli Drive DUO, they finally defeat Beautymon. After its defeat, its Appmon Chip is collected by Eri but remains grayed out and unusable for a time.
The character's development culminates not in a personality change, but in its function as a component for a greater power. Near the end of the series, it is revealed that Beautymon can fuse with Oujamon, its former rival, to create the new God-grade Appmon, Poseidomon. Eri, having made peace with her past defeat, activates the still-grayed-out chip of Beautymon using the Seven Code Band. This action reactivates the chip and allows it to combine with Oujamon's chip, successfully materializing the chip for Poseidomon. Thus, despite its antagonistic role, Beautymon becomes an essential part of the Appli Drivers' final arsenal.
In combat, Beautymon wields a set of beauty-themed abilities that are nonetheless powerful and destructive. Its primary attack is Rosa Phoenix, where it unleashes an aura shaped like a bird from its Venus Rod. It can also perform a direct strike called Venus Rod. Another ability, Wing Pact, allows it to summon winged mirrors that can absorb incoming attacks and convert them into power to boost its own strength, showcasing a defensive and counter-offensive capability befitting an Ultimate-level Appmon.
