Description
Chitose Karasuma is a university student and aspiring voice actress who serves as the protagonist of her story. She is affiliated with the agency Number One Produce, where her older brother, Gojo, works as her manager. With a distinctive appearance characterized by her long lavender hair and similarly colored eyes, she presents a congenial demeanor to her peers. Initially, Chitose holds a positive attitude and high confidence in her own abilities, believing she possesses innate talent for voice acting and has simply not yet been given the right opportunities to succeed. She is nicknamed Chi-sama by others in the industry.
Beneath her charming exterior, however, Chitose is cynical, selfish, and somewhat childish, holding a contemptuous view of the voice acting industry which she considers to be deeply flawed. Despite her ambition to become a top voice actress, this cynicism leads her to act like a "bitch in sheep's clothing," appearing sweet while being dismissive of others and the work involved. She is known for being a poor loser, a glutton, and somewhat of a tsundere, particularly in her relationship with her brother, whom she affectionately calls by his first name, Gojo, and with whom she shares an apartment. In practice, she relies heavily on him for support and daily tasks, showing little awareness of her own dependency.
Chitose's primary motivation is her desire to become a star, driven by a refusal to engage in what she considers boring work. She enters the competitive world of voice acting with the hope and expectation of rapid success, but is quickly confronted by the harsh realities of an industry where she, as a newcomer, only receives minor roles. Her current financial situation is precarious, with her monthly salary averaging around 50,000 yen, a fact that fuels her anxiety and desperation for a breakthrough. Her defining character flaw is her arrogance and inflated sense of self-worth, which she masks behind a facade of friendliness.
In the unfolding story, Chitose's role is to represent a cynical yet ambitious newcomer navigating a difficult and often superficial industry. Her career arc begins to shift when she lands her first significant role as one of the lead heroines in an upcoming anime adaptation, titled "Millennium Princess x Kowloon Overlord". This opportunity places her alongside other young actresses, including the kind-hearted Yae Kugayama and the more cynical Kazuha Shibasaki, with whom she clashes and eventually forms deeper bonds. A key relationship is with her brother Gojo, who acts as her responsible manager and provides a critical voice of reason, even as her bratty and irresponsible nature contrasts sharply with his mature and strict personality. Another significant figure is her enthusiastic new manager, Matsuoka, who constantly pushes her to improve.
Throughout her experiences, Chitose undergoes considerable development. Her journey includes facing harsh public criticism that challenges her confidence and leads to a period of despondency, including becoming camera-shy after seeing a negative online video about her performance. She suffers a significant emotional breakdown after a series of humiliations, including being separated from her brother as her manager, which makes her question whether to continue in the industry at all. However, through self-reflection and the support of her colleagues, she resolves to take her career more seriously and improve her skills. Initially delivering flat and uninspired performances that are mistaken for deliberate character choices, she begins to show genuine improvement as she progresses through the production of the anime. By the end, despite retaining some of her naivety and insensitivity, she evolves from a purely selfish individual into someone who learns to genuinely value her friendships and abandon her superior attitude. Her greatest ability is not a natural talent for voice work, but stubborn, energetic persistence; even when her brother notes her lack of natural skill, he acknowledges that her refusal to give up on her dream is a quality of significant merit.
