Description
Aya Narumi is the younger sister of Shou Narumi and a former Selector who participated in the battles of the WIXOSS game. Her exact age is not specified, but she is believed to be between fourteen and sixteen years old. Before her involvement with the Selector battles, Aya had a lively and happy disposition. As she began to accumulate losses, her personality shifted dramatically, and she became shy, quiet, and withdrawn due to the mounting stress. During her time as a Selector, Aya repeatedly reached out to her older brother for help and advice, but he was often preoccupied with his college assignments and consistently ignored her pleas, which caused her to become upset and angry with him on the rare occasions he did pay attention. Her motivation was likely the same as many Selectors, hoping to have a wish granted, but she struggled with the pressures of the battles themselves.

Aya’s role in the story is largely that of a tragic backstory figure for her brother, Shou. Her disappearance serves as a cautionary tale about the true cost of losing in the Selector game. It is revealed that she suffered her final loss at the hands of Kou Satomi when he was still an LRIG, a battle in which her skills were described as amateurish. As she was about to lose her last coin, she screamed for her brother to help her. Following this final defeat, her body was taken over by her own LRIG, causing her to vanish from the real world. She is later seen walking alongside her brother after being revived along with everyone else at the conclusion of the series. There exists a distinct LRIG character also named Aya, who was created from Shou’s memories of his little sister and serves as his LRIG, possessing some of the same traits as the human Aya but with her own distinct personality. This LRIG version displays a dual nature, acting sweet and innocent externally but revealing a harsh and irritable side when challenged, and she later permanently takes over Shou’s body after his final loss, though she expresses dissatisfaction with inhabiting a male form.

Aya’s key relationship is with her older brother, Shou Narumi. The strain in their relationship, caused by his neglect, is a central part of her tragedy. Her other significant connection is with the LRIG who was once her partner and eventually overwrote her existence. Regarding abilities, the human Aya was simply a Selector who played the card game, but her skills were notably not strong enough to avoid defeat. In contrast, the LRIG Aya who battles alongside Shou has a known ability called Holograph, which allows her to create disposable tokens on the field, similar to decoys.
