Description
Lucy M., whose full name is Lucy Maud Montgomery, is a character who first appears as a member of the Guild, a powerful American organization of ability users. She has a pale complexion, a short and slim build, long red hair, and green eyes. She typically wears a white long-sleeved shirt, a black vest, a brown frilled skirt, white socks, and black loafers. Lucy's background is defined by a difficult childhood: she grew up in an orphanage where she was treated harshly, forced to perform manual labor such as washing dishes for long hours, and given patched-up hand-me-down clothes. The other children ostracized her because of her ability, and the adults abused her. This upbringing instilled in her a deep sense of loneliness and a longing for a place where she truly belongs. As a result, she joined the Guild in search of that sense of home and acceptance. Her personality is initially prickly and defensive, with a tough exterior that masks her vulnerability and desire for connection. She is strong-willed and can be hostile toward those she perceives as threats, but she also has a softer side, as shown by her fondness for stuffed toys, daydreaming, and romantic things. Her motivations shift over the course of the story from serving the Guild to finding genuine companionship, particularly after she interacts with Atsushi Nakajima. In the narrative, Lucy is introduced as an antagonist, assigned to capture Atsushi during the Guild's conflict with the Armed Detective Agency. However, her encounter with Atsushi challenges her worldview; he shows her kindness and understanding, which leads her to turn against the Guild and eventually help him. This marks a turning point: she begins to form a bond built on trust. Key relationships include her subordinate position under Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, the Guild's leader, and her connection with Louisa May Alcott, who brought her from the orphanage and cared for her. Her most significant relationship is with Atsushi, as he becomes the first person to see her as more than a tool and offers her the belonging she craves. Her character development is thus a journey from isolation and distrust to opening up and finding a place where she is valued. Lucy's notable ability is called Anne of Abyssal Red. This power allows her to create an alternate space known as Anne's Room, a pocket dimension where she can trap opponents. To activate the imprisonment, she plays a game of hide-and-seek or tag with her target, and if the target is caught by a monster named Anne that resides in that space, they are confined there. This ability reflects the themes of her own childhood games and her desire to control her environment. Later, she continues to appear as a supporting figure, primarily working at the Uzumaki café alongside others, and her growth is shown in her gradually becoming more open and protective of her new friends.
