Description
Lunala, a Psychic/Ghost-type Legendary Pokémon known as the Moone Pokémon, manifests as a large, bat-like entity. Its skeletal wings and body shimmer with a shifting starscape pattern. Accessing its full power triggers a Full Moon phase transformation, revealing a third eye and unleashing intense light from its wings. Originating from another world and existing since ancient times, historical records revered it as "the beast that calls the moon." Lunala sustains itself by absorbing ambient light, converting it into energy. This absorption enables it to summon unknown entities and powers through interdimensional holes, potentially influencing phenomena such as Ultra Wormholes.

Within the anime narrative, Lunala first appears alongside Solgaleo in Ash Ketchum's dream, entrusting him with their newly created Cosmog. Later, Lunala physically emerges while fleeing Necrozma, which seeks to absorb it. During a battle at the Altar of the Sunne, Lunala receives aid from the Ultra Guardians and Tapu Koko. Despite their efforts, Necrozma successfully fuses with Lunala, becoming Dawn Wings Necrozma. Freed but weakened, Lunala recovers when Ash, Gladion, Kiawe, and Lana share their Z-Move energy. Restored, Lunala transports the Ultra Guardians through an Ultra Wormhole to confront Necrozma. It battles Necrozma to liberate Cosmog and later collaborates with Gladion to execute the signature Z-Move Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom, transferring energy to restore Necrozma. After Necrozma heals Poipole's homeworld, Lunala returns to Alola.

Lunala exhibits a calm and enigmatic demeanor, contrasting with Solgaleo's assertiveness. It demonstrates protective instincts towards Cosmog and willingly cooperates with humans and other Pokémon when necessary. Its abilities include creating Ultra Wormholes for interdimensional travel, firing beams of moonlight such as Moongeist Beam, and utilizing the Z-Move Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom to banish opponents to Ultra Space. Its Shadow Shield ability reduces damage taken while at full health. Lunala evolves exclusively from Cosmoem in Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Moon, and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass. It shares a symbiotic relationship with Solgaleo, as both are evolved forms of Cosmog and maintain cosmic balance. Lunala is also part of the Light Trio alongside Solgaleo and Necrozma, connected through their associations with light and Ultra Space.
