Kahaku served as the sixth successor of the Guardian Force and the first male heir descended from Hayase. This unusual succession resulted from his mother's death before bearing a daughter, thrusting him into a role historically held by women. Though some within the organization expressed disappointment over his gender, he underwent the same rigorous training and education as his predecessors, dedicating himself earnestly to the Guardian Force's mission: protecting the immortal Fushi and combating the Nokkers.
Standing 183 cm tall, Kahaku possessed striking red eyes and short black hair reminiscent of Hayase. He typically wore the Guardian Force uniform: a dark tunic, light pants, a red half-cloak bearing the organization's sigil, and armored pauldrons and faulds. A Nokker resided within his left arm, smaller than those inhabiting previous heirs. This Nokker-enhanced arm granted immense physical strength, enabling him to crush objects, launch people, and extend his arm in tendril-like fashion. He was a highly skilled combatant, capable of holding his own against multiple opponents or Nokker-controlled bodies even without relying on the Nokker's power.
Kahaku's personality blended charisma, confidence, and profound dedication to his duties. Generally polite, he could turn sarcastic and condescending towards those he disliked, particularly individuals he saw as troublesome to Fushi. While outwardly self-assured, he privately battled self-criticism and depressive episodes, often when intoxicated. Raised as the Guardian Force's figurehead, his worldview was deeply shaped by their religious doctrines, which he initially used to justify actions and reassure himself and others. His faith centered on Fushi as a deity, though this perception frequently clashed with Fushi's actual behavior and needs.
His relationship with Fushi evolved significantly. Initially, he approached Fushi with respectful detachment, seeking only friendship and cooperation. However, witnessing Fushi assume Parona's form ignited an intense romantic obsession. Kahaku grappled with internalized homophobia, attempting to rationalize his attraction by insisting Fushi was fundamentally female despite Fushi's rejection of gendered constraints. This fixation led him to prioritize his desires over Fushi's autonomy, culminating in an attempted forced embrace that fractured their relationship.
The Nokker within his arm actively sabotaged his efforts, feeding him false information, killing Fushi's allies, and stealing Fushi's forms. Horrified by these actions and recognizing the Nokker's enduring threat to Fushi, Kahaku made multiple unsuccessful attempts to destroy it. During the battle of Renril, his faith shifted decisively. After Fushi explicitly rejected the Guardian Force's religious tenets, Kahaku stopped wearing the organization's insignia, symbolizing his break from Hayase's ideology. He instead placed his faith directly in Fushi as an individual, demonstrated when he fought to protect Fushi's incapacitated form based solely on trust in their resilience.
Kahaku's story concluded when he manipulated his Nokker into transferring from a young girl, Iddy, back to himself. He then lured it into a vat of molten iron, destroying both himself and the Nokker. His final act was a declaration of love for Fushi, framed as sacrificial atonement for the harm caused by his Nokker and an ultimate expression of devotion. He chose death over reuniting with Fushi, ensuring the continuation of Hayase's bloodline through future descendants like Mizuha while freeing Fushi from his Nokker's threat.
