Movie
Description
Lyfa is a supporting character in Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale. In the real world, she is Suguha Kirigaya, the adoptive sister and cousin of the protagonist Kirito. She is a highly skilled kendo practitioner, having trained in the sport for many years under the guidance of her grandfather. Her background in kendo gives her exceptional physical reflexes and sword-handling ability, which becomes important in the augmented reality setting of Ordinal Scale. Lyfa is cheerful, energetic, and deeply caring toward her brother. She is motivated by a strong desire to protect and support Kirito, especially when she sees him struggling. In the movie, after Kirito resolves to improve his real-world combat skills to counter the dangers of Ordinal Scale and save Asuna from memory loss, Lyfa steps in to help him train. She uses her kendo expertise to teach him effective sword techniques, directly contributing to his growth and ability to compete physically in the augmented reality game. Her role in the story is primarily as a supportive ally. She appears alongside Kirito during his training montage and later participates in the climactic battle at the Tokyo National Stadium, where she joins a group of players from other virtual worlds to fight the Aincrad bosses. There, she fights as a Sylph from Alfheim Online, using her characteristic green attire and winged avatar, and demonstrates her combat prowess. Lyfa’s development in Ordinal Scale is tied to her relationship with Kirito; she shows maturity and resolve by putting aside her personal feelings to assist him without hesitation. Her notable abilities include real-world kendo skills, which allow her to wield a virtual sword effectively in augmented reality, and her in-game flying and combat skills from Alfheim Online, which she adapts to the Ordinal Scale environment. Throughout the movie, she remains a steady, reliable figure who contributes both through training and direct action, helping to overcome the central threat.
