TV-Series
Description
Akihiro Altland is a central character from the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans television series. He is introduced as the leader of the Human Debris within the Chryse Guard Security organization (CGS), a group of trafficked boys conscripted into service as expendable property. As a child, his parents’ trade ship was attacked by pirates, leading to his capture and sale into slavery, which separated him from his younger brother, Masahiro. His past as a Human Debris defines his early cold, withdrawn, and pragmatic demeanor. He initially believes he must obey whoever is in authority for survival. After the boys’ mutiny against CGS, Akihiro and the other Human Debris are technically freed but choose to remain with the newly formed Tekkadan out of gratitude and because finding legitimate employment is nearly impossible. Over time, as Tekkadan values him as a person, his relationships improve, and he comes to call the group his family and Tekkadan his home. His primary motivation shifts from mere survival to protecting his newfound family. He extends kindness to other trafficked individuals, notably proposing that those without family names can take on his own to create a sense of belonging. The deaths of his brother Masahiro and his adopted brother Aston weigh heavily on him, driving his resolve to protect what remains precious. Akihiro serves as the captain of Tekkadan’s second working unit and is a key mobile suit pilot. He shares a friendly rivalry with Mikazuki Augus, Tekkadan’s primary ace pilot, and forms a strong bond with Lafter Frankland of the Turbines, who helps train him; the narrative hints at romantic feelings between them. He sees Aston as a younger brother and is devastated by his death. Akihiro undergoes significant development, transforming from a resigned soldier into a fierce, loyal defender of his family. In the final battle against Gjallarhorn’s Arianrhod Fleet, he chooses to stay behind to allow the rest of Tekkadan to escape, dying as a warrior fighting for the only family he ever had. As a pilot, his skills are considered second only to Mikazuki’s within Tekkadan. He has undergone the Alaya-Vijnana System surgery twice and survived, granting him enhanced spatial awareness and reaction times. His fighting style is persistent, tenacious, and physically imposing. He is obsessed with maintaining his fitness, making him the strongest member of Tekkadan. He pilots the Gundam Gusion Rebake and its successor, the Gusion Rebake Full City, suits that complement his heavy-handed, defensive combat style.
