Description
Gabriel White Tenma, often called simply Gabriel or Gab, serves as the central figure of her story. She is an angel who originally hails from Heaven, where she was celebrated as the top graduate of the angel school, a prodigy whose kindness, diligence, and academic excellence were recognized by teachers and peers alike. Her character is defined by a dramatic transformation triggered by her move to the human world. Sent to Earth on a mission to learn about humanity and guide people toward happiness, her virtuous nature begins to crumble after she discovers online gaming. What starts as an attempt to save a character in a game quickly spirals into a full-blown addiction, leading to her gradual evolution into a self-proclaimed "fallen angel" or a "faillen angel".
In her current state, Gabriel's personality is the antithesis of her former self. She is lethargic, cynical, and entirely absorbed in her virtual life, often voicing a dismissive attitude toward real-world responsibilities and even humanity itself. Where she was once tidy and disciplined, she is now slovenly, living in a perpetually messy apartment and wearing little more than a red tracksuit at home. Her golden hair, once neatly styled, is almost always left unkempt and tangled. Despite this profound laziness, remnants of her original angelic nature still surface on occasion, revealing that her kindness is not entirely lost. For instance, she once used her powers to heal a blind girl who was in danger of being hit by a car, accepting the subsequent reduction in her heavenly allowance without regret.
Gabriel's primary motivation is the preservation and pursuit of her own comfort, which revolves entirely around playing online games, most notably "Valhalla Kingdom Online". Her daily life is a cycle of gaming, sleeping, and occasionally attending school only to avoid being forcibly recalled to Heaven. While she loathes exertion and chores, she is not completely without ambition or cunning. She can be surprisingly sharp and manipulative, particularly when a situation involves her own benefit or when she has the opportunity to prank someone. This is most visible in her interactions with the demon Satania, whom she and her friend Raphiel delight in deceiving and tormenting for their own amusement.
Within the story's dynamic, Gabriel is the catalyst for much of the comedy, acting as a lazy, self-centered anchor around which her more industrious and eccentric friends orbit. Her role is not to drive a grand narrative but to serve as a comedic contrast to the others, highlighting her own fall from grace and their often inverted natures. Her key relationships are central to this dynamic. The demon Vignette, or Vigne, acts as her primary caretaker, frequently tidying Gabriel's apartment and cooking for her while also offering sharp-tongued critiques of her un-angelic behavior. Despite the nagging, a genuine and deep friendship exists between them. Her relationship with the demon Satania is more adversarial, as Gabriel dismisses Satania's grandiose villainous aspirations but also finds her a convenient and amusing target for practical jokes. Conversely, she shares a more aligned, almost conspiratorial bond with the angel Raphiel, who also enjoys manipulating Satania for fun. A significant figure in her development is her older sister, Zeruel. A powerful archangel who once looked after Gabriel, Zeruel descends to Earth upon learning of her sister's堕落. In a notable episode, Zeruel attempts to forcibly re-educate Gabriel, only to realize she knows very little about who her sister has become. This confrontation, which ends with Gabriel's friends helping her, reinforces her connection to her new life on Earth.
While Gabriel has forsaken most of her training, she still possesses considerable angelic abilities. She is capable of flight, teleportation, and using magic, including a notable skill called the "Divine Foot" that lets her travel anywhere, though it has a humiliating tendency to send only her clothes to her destination. Her most dangerous power is "The First Trumpet of the Apocalypse," an artifact that is said to be capable of destroying the entire world, though her friends usually prevent her from using it. Despite her atrophied physical stamina, which makes even light exercise a struggle, she has demonstrated bursts of superhuman strength when truly angered, such as kicking her own front door off its hinges and knocking out Satania in one blow. Her intelligence remains formidable; she is a natural genius who can understand complex topics and devise clever, if lazy, plans when she chooses to apply herself.
