Description
Nurarihyon is the final alien boss of the Osaka mission in the animated film GANTZ:O, which adapts the Osaka arc of the Gantz manga. The character takes its name from a guest deity in Japanese folklore, an association that fits its ghostly, monstrous, and elusive nature. Within the Gantz system, it is the first alien to be rated as a one hundred point heavyweight boss, making it the highest-value target the hunters have faced in the film and one of the most powerful enemies seen in the series.
In the story, Nurarihyon leads a horde of dangerous creatures that attack Osaka, and it is the last and most terrible creature left standing after the other monsters have been dealt with. It wounds the veteran Yoshikazu Suzuki, who protects Kato, and it tears off the arm of Joichiro Nishi. Its final confrontation forces the remaining hunters into a desperate plan. Masaru Kato acts as a decoy while Reika Shimohira and Anzu Yamasaki attack the creature from a distance, and before it dies it kills Yamasaki and leaves Kato gravely wounded. In the end, the decisive strike is delivered by Nishi, who slices the creature in half after it has been weakened, and Kato's killing of Nurarihyon earns him the one hundred points he uses to bring Yamasaki back to life.
