Movie
Description
Kō Nakano is a young man of average height and weight with short, light brown hair, reddish-brown eyes, and notably thick, dark eyebrows. He is a former high school student who becomes involved in the conflict surrounding Ajin, immortal beings known as demi-humans. He is first discovered as one of the Ajin gathered by the antagonist Satō for a plan involving mass violence. Realizing the true nature and danger of Satō’s intentions, Kō escapes and later seeks out the main protagonist, Kei Nagai, to convince him to help stop Satō.
Kō’s personality is defined by strong emotional reactions, impulsiveness, and a pronounced sense of justice. He is warm, friendly, and values human connection, which puts him in direct contrast with Kei, who is colder and more pragmatic. Kō is quick to act on his feelings and often speaks his mind, sometimes leading to friction between the two. He is fiercely loyal and, despite his own fears, is willing to put himself in danger to protect others. This emotional openness and desire to do what is right serve as a moral anchor for the group.
Kō’s primary motivation is to prevent Satō from carrying out his plan of mass destruction, which would result in the loss of many human lives. He believes that stopping Satō is the right thing to do, regardless of the personal risk. He does not share the goals of other Ajin who seek revenge against humanity, and he is determined to act on his convictions.
In the story, Kō acts as Kei’s partner and comedic foil. While Kei approaches problems with logic and calculation, Kō relies on instinct and emotion. He often pushes Kei to consider the human cost of his decisions. He also develops a close working relationship and friendship with Izumi Shimomura, another Ajin who initially serves as a government operative. Together with Kei and Izumi, Kō becomes part of a small team assembled to oppose Satō.
Kō undergoes significant character development over the course of the story. He begins as a frightened fugitive who barely escaped from Satō, unsure of his own abilities and place in the conflict. As he trains and fights alongside Kei and the others, he grows into a brave and reliable soldier, learning to control his fear and contribute meaningfully to the team’s efforts. His journey is about finding purpose in a war where he lacks the supernatural abilities of his peers.
Notable abilities: Kō is an Ajin, meaning he possesses immortality and rapid regeneration from any fatal injury. However, unlike many other Ajin, he is unable to manifest an Invisible Black Matter (IBM), often called a black ghost. This forces him to rely entirely on physical combat, his athleticism, and his courage. He has excellent reflexes and situational awareness, which allow him to avoid dangerous situations, such as dodging tranquilizer darts. He does not possess any special combat training but compensates with tenacity and a willingness to put himself in harm’s way.
