TV-Series
Description
Kyouka Jirou is a student in U.A. High School's Class 1-A, training to become a professional hero. She was born on August 1 and stands 154 centimeters tall. Her appearance is characterized by chin-length dark purple hair with an asymmetrical fringe that features two reflections shaped like sound waves. She has triangular onyx eyes with notably long lower lashes. Her most distinctive features are the flexible, plug-like earphone jacks that hang from each of her earlobes, which function as prehensile appendages she can control at will and extend up to several meters in length.

Born to parents Kyotoku and Mika Jirou, both musicians, Kyouka inherited her mother's Quirk. Her family background immersed her in music from a young age, and she developed the ability to play multiple instruments, including bass, guitar, and drums. Despite this musical upbringing, she ultimately chose the path of a hero to help others. Her decision was met with support from her parents, who encouraged her to pursue her own aspirations.

Kyouka possesses a pragmatic, blunt, and often teasing personality. She frequently directs snarky comments at her classmate Denki Kaminari, whose clueless nature makes him an easy target for her wit. However, beneath this cool exterior lies a surprisingly sensitive and caring individual. She is deeply loyal to her friends, particularly Momo Yaoyorozu, with whom she shares her closest bond. She can be quite aggressive when provoked, using her earphone jacks to physically discipline others, including Kaminari and Minoru Mineta. Despite her typically unflappable demeanor, she has a strong aversion to horror-based activities and an unusual discomfort with nudity. She is also somewhat self-conscious about her appearance and was notably upset when Mineta did not consider her attractive compared to her female classmates.

Initially, Kyouka felt embarrassed about her passion for rock music, viewing it as a hobby unrelated to her hero training. She was insecure about her modest bust size, especially in contrast to classmates like Momo Yaoyorozu, and worried that her interests made her seem unfeminine. However, her time at U.A. helped her overcome these insecurities. A turning point came during the U.A. School Festival, where she served as the lead singer and bandleader for Class 1-A's performance. The encouragement of her classmates, including Kaminari and Koji Koda, along with Mina Ashido's praise of her "husky and sexy" voice, helped her realize that her musical talents could be an asset rather than a liability to her hero identity.

Kyouka's Quirk is named Earphone Jack. It allows her to insert the jacks on her earlobes into surfaces or objects to listen to vibrations and detect faint sounds for reconnaissance purposes. By channeling her own heartbeat through these jacks and into special amplifiers, she can generate powerful soundwaves and vibrations that function as disruptive shockwaves or destructive seismic attacks. She can also nullify incoming sound-based attacks using techniques like Counter-Balance. Her hero costume is equipped with Amplifier Jack devices on her forearms and Stereo Boots that help direct her vibrational attacks.

Her role in the story showcases her strategic thinking and growth as a hero. During the U.S.J. Incident, she collaborated with Momo Yaoyorozu and Denki Kaminari, using Kaminari's electrification Quirk as a conductive weapon after plugging her jacks into him. In her final exam against Present Mic, she helped her partner Koji Koda overcome his phobia of insects to use his Quirk to defeat their opponent, even sustaining ear injuries to protect him from sound attacks. She later interned under the Pro Heroes Death Arms and Gang Orca, who helped refine her reconnaissance techniques.

Kyouka's key relationships include her deep friendship with Momo Yaoyorozu, who she partners with on missions and studies alongside. Her bickering friendship with Denki Kaminari is a recurring dynamic; they tease each other constantly but demonstrate genuine care and concern for one another during dangerous situations. She also developed a mutual respect with Katsuki Bakugo during the School Festival preparations when he played guitar for the class band, and later during joint training battles where she earned his trust as a teammate.

Throughout the series, Kyouka demonstrates remarkable development. She became more confident in her abilities, evolving from someone who hid her musical interests to a person who integrates them fully into her hero work. During the Paranormal Liberation War, she sustained a scar on her right earphone jack. In the Final War against All For One, she lost her left ear and earphone jack entirely. However, she displayed extraordinary willpower by resisting the villain's psychological terror, inadvertently triggering rebellion among the stolen Quirks within him. After the battle, she began using a prosthetic ear that replicates her original Quirk. Following her graduation, Kyouka achieved the rank of No. 30 Pro Hero while successfully maintaining her music career and even mentoring the younger hero Eri in musical pursuits.
