Description
Cal Shekhar is a character from the anime Taboo Tattoo. She is a loyal and high-ranking servant to Princess Aryabahta, holding the position of Vice-Commander of the Brahman, the princess's elite fighting force. Cal is also known by her nickname, Aegis Armadillo, a title that references her formidable defensive abilities. In terms of appearance, she is a young woman with long, waist-length black hair and brown eyes.

Her most notable abilities come from her Power Crest, a type of tattoo that grants its user extraordinary powers. Cal's specific power allows her to create powerful energy barriers that are not only capable of providing an impenetrable defense but can also be used offensively, as she can shape these boundaries to cut through nearly anything, including dimensions. Her skill with a sword complements this power, making her a deadly close-quarters combatant. Her barrier ability is often activated using a piece of wood. Later in the series, the full extent of her power is identified as an absolute boundary, and she loses the ability to use it after being severely wounded in a confrontation with the character Brad Blackstone. Despite this loss, she remains a highly dangerous and skilled fighter.

Cal Shekhar has a serious and disciplined demeanor, befitting her role as a captain of the guard. She is deeply loyal to Princess Aryabahta and serves as one of her most trusted lieutenants. However, this serious facade is often tested by her sovereign's unpredictable and frivolous behavior. For instance, she becomes easily frustrated by the princess's lack of self-control and her tendency to pursue romantic interests at inappropriate times, such as during a military operation.

A key aspect of Cal's personality is her hidden romantic feelings. It is revealed that she is in love with Brad Blackstone, a powerful rival warrior from the United States. This unrequited love becomes a significant point of emotional vulnerability for her. When she confronts Brad in battle, he forces her to admit these feelings out loud before declaring his own love for another woman, Bluesy Fluesy, which sends Cal into a rage.

In the story, Cal serves as a primary antagonist and a major obstacle for the protagonists. She is first seen accompanying Princess Aryabahta during an excavation of a secret tattoo-producing site in Japan. Her primary role in the narrative is as a powerful enforcer for the princess. When the United States Army's tattoo forces launch an assault to retake this ruin, Cal stands as the main line of defense, effortlessly defeating several soldiers and proving to be a match for the entire squad. Her most significant battles occur against Brad Blackstone, first in a confrontation that cripples her powers, and later against Justice Akatsuka, the series' protagonist, who has inherited some of Brad's strength and memories. In these final fights, she proves to be a tenacious opponent, exploiting any sign of weakness and forcing the hero to fight at his absolute best.

Cal Shekhar's character development is largely tied to her loyalty and her hidden love. Her arc culminates in a final, desperate fight. Though she is a formidable warrior and manages to incapacitate multiple enemies simultaneously, she is ultimately overwhelmed. In a moment of distraction, a foe takes advantage of an existing wound, driving a blade deeper into her abdomen and causing a fatal injury. Lying on the ground, unable to continue, she is executed by a gunshot to the head.
