TV-Series
Description
Ponta is a Ventu-Vulpis, or Cottontail Fox, with unique physical traits including green fur—appearing yellow-green in the anime—and a flying squirrel-like body structure featuring a fleshy membrane between limbs for gliding. Her large, flower-shaped tails sometimes wrap around a companion's neck like a scarf.

Originally captured by human bandits near Diento, Ponta was wounded and used as bait to lure elven children. Arc eliminated the bandits, discovered her caged, healed her injuries with magic, and earned her trust, establishing their voluntary partnership. An alternate anime origin depicts her injured by a Giant Basilisk during an herb-gathering mission, where Arc found, healed, and bonded with her. She rejected names like "Dandelion" but accepted "Ponta."

Her personality combines notable gluttony—overriding natural caution in pursuit of new foods—with high intelligence and adaptability. Though inherently wary of malicious intent like most spirit animals, she feigns being a decorative crest on Arc’s helmet during stealth missions. This behavior extends to mediating trust between Arc and others, including elves and beast-people, as spirit animals rarely align with untrustworthy humans.

Abilities include gliding via her membrane and wind magic. However, excessive snacking and reduced activity led to significant weight gain, particularly in the web novel’s conclusion, where she became too heavy to fly or glide. Arc and allies enforced a strict diet and exercise regimen to restore her abilities, overcoming her resistance.

Relationships center on unwavering loyalty to Arc, demonstrated by perching on his helmet or shoulder during travels and battles. This bond convinces distrustful groups like elves of Arc’s benign intentions, as spirit animals instinctively avoid malign individuals. Ponta’s presence specifically facilitates alliances with characters like Ariane and Chiyome, who interpret her trust as proof of Arc’s integrity.

Trivia includes divergent gender portrayals: female in the web novel and anime, neutral in light novels. The web novel details her weight-related inability to fly and subsequent recovery, omitted in light novels. She also exhibits comical reactions to strong smells, such as Arc’s homemade soy sauce substitute.
