Description
Kyrie serves as the consigliere of the Oz family in OZMAFIA!!, often referred to as the cunning Scarecrow. His outward demeanor appears gentle and soft-spoken, but beneath that lies a calculating and malicious personality. He is widely recognized as a sadist who enjoys manipulating others and prefers to avoid doing things himself, instead using his intelligence and charm to get others to act on his behalf. Despite this twisted side, he hides a genuinely sweet and caring nature that surfaces only occasionally. He often bullies his fellow family members, Caramia and Axel, into doing chores or favors for him, but he means no real harm and cares for them in his own way.
Kyrie’s role in the story is that of the family’s strategist and information gatherer. He is the brains of the operation, taking on dirtier jobs when necessary to collect intelligence or handle delicate situations. He is a crack shot with any weapon, particularly a rifle, though he avoids using it if he can achieve his goals through manipulation alone. His primary motivation appears to be protecting the Oz family and maintaining the status quo, though his personal route reveals deeper layers of guilt and self-sacrifice. He is the only character who retains memories of Dorothy and later of Fuka after Soh erases everyone’s memories in the grand ending, a burden he carries alone because he believes he is already stained by his past actions.
In terms of key relationships, Kyrie is close to Caramia and Axel, his adoptive family. He teases and bosses them around, but he is fiercely loyal and will go to great lengths for them. His dynamic with the heroine, Fuka, develops from playful manipulation into genuine affection if she chooses his route. His character development is marked by a gradual softening of his cruel edges, though some endings show a jarring and permanent personality change. Notably, his route involves a pendant that contains part of his consciousness, hinting at his deep trust and vulnerability when he gives it to Fuka.
Kyrie is highly intelligent and analytical, often several steps ahead of those around him. He is introverted and keeps his emotions guarded, rarely opening up about his past or his true feelings. His abilities extend beyond combat to strategic planning, psychological manipulation, and a remarkable aptitude for remembering details that others have forgotten. His backstory, while not fully detailed in standard sources, involves a tragedy for which he accepts full blame, reinforcing his self-perception as someone already beyond redemption.
