Description
Lotte Jansson is a sixteen-year-old witch from Finland and one of the main protagonists of the series. She is enrolled at Luna Nova Magical Academy, where she studies to obtain a license for magical tools. She comes from a family of spiritual magic users who run a magic apothecary shop, and her upbringing immersed her in a tradition of communicating with the spirit world. Her family possesses a special lullaby, passed down through generations, used to call forth and appease fairies and spirits.

Lotte is characterized by a shy, calm, and gentle demeanor. She is soft-spoken and rarely becomes angry, preferring to approach situations with caution and thoughtfulness. She is deeply kind-hearted and takes on a supportive, almost maternal role within her friend group, consistently looking out for the well-being of others. She often worries about her roommate Atsuko Akko Kagari, whose impulsive determination sometimes leads her to overlook her own safety or the feelings of those around her. While typically timid, Lotte is capable of firm resolve and surprising courage when her friends or something she holds dear is threatened. She values her friendships deeply and is motivated by a desire to see her friends succeed while balancing her own responsibilities as a student.

Lotte's role in the story is that of a loyal friend and the emotional anchor of her trio. She provides a stabilizing presence alongside the more impulsive Akko and the eccentric Sucy Manbavaran, with whom she shares a dormitory. Her careful nature often serves as a voice of reason, tempering the group's more chaotic adventures. Throughout the series, Lotte experiences significant personal growth, gradually overcoming her natural insecurity and timidity to become more confident in her magical abilities and more willing to stand up for her beliefs and her friends.

Her notable abilities lie primarily in Communication Magic and White Magic. Born into a family of spiritual magic users, she has a special talent for invoking and communicating with fairies and spirits that reside in old objects. She often performs this magic by singing the traditional lullaby passed down from her grandmother, a method powerful enough to calm large groups of fairies. By working in harmony with these spirits, she can amplify her magic, enabling techniques such as manipulating plants, generating healing fields, and forming purifying barriers. She also displays proficiency in foundational magic, including flight and metamorphosis magic. Her magical strength is rooted in her empathetic connection to the natural and spiritual world rather than in raw power.
