Description
Croix Meridies is a Luna Nova Magical Academy alumna originally from Italy. She distinguished herself as a researcher of modern magic with numerous accomplishments, particularly in the field she pioneered known as magitronics. Her inventions include the Sorcery Solution System and other magical gadgets. She later returns to Luna Nova as the new teacher of modern magic.
In her youth, Croix was a kind and considerate person who was close friends with her classmate, Chariot du Nord. Together they searched for the words of the Grand Triskelion. However, Croix grew deeply resentful when Chariot was chosen to wield the Shiny Rod instead of herself. This perceived theft of her dream transformed her into a calculating and ambitious individual. As an adult, she is a skilled manipulator who can be charming when needed and remains cool under pressure. She is highly logical and plans her actions meticulously, often disregarding how her experiments affect others. Yet she is not completely heartless; when her actions unintentionally endangered Chariot during a confrontation, she panicked and cried out to save her.
Her primary motivation is to prove the superiority of her modern magical technology and to undermine Chariot’s legacy. She seeks to expose Chariot’s secret identity as the magical performer Shiny Chariot and to take control of the ancient Noir Rod. Her role in the story is that of the main antagonist, challenging both the traditional magic of Luna Nova and the ideals represented by the protagonist, Akko, and her mentor Ursula (Chariot).
Key relationships include her former friendship with Chariot, which sours into rivalry and antagonism. She also becomes a mentor figure of sorts to Akko, though her intentions are initially self-serving. Toward the end of the series, Chariot saves Croix’s life from the Noir Rod, prompting a genuine change of heart. Croix reconciles with Chariot and devotes herself to finding a cure for the Wagandea curse that has cost Chariot her ability to fly on a broom.
Notable abilities include her expertise in magitronics, allowing her to create advanced magical devices. She wields the Noir Rod, a powerful artifact that channels dark magic, and she can control robotic minions. Her keen intellect and strategic planning are her greatest assets.
Throughout the series, Croix undergoes significant development from a bitter, manipulative antagonist to a repentant ally who seeks to atone for her past actions. Her transformation is rooted in the rediscovery of her old kindness and the forgiveness offered by Chariot.
