Description
Jinpei Matsuda, a Tokyo Metropolitan Police bomb disposal unit veteran, carried a personal vendetta against law enforcement stemming from his father’s unjust downfall. Jotaro Matsuda, a retired boxer, saw his career and reputation destroyed by a false murder accusation during a championship match, spiraling into alcoholism. Despite this bitterness, Jinpei enrolled in the police academy, clashing ideologically with Rei Furuya before forging an uneasy alliance alongside peers Kenji Hagiwara, Wataru Date, and Hiromitsu Morofushi.

A disciplined boxer and technical savant, Jinpei mastered disarming complex explosives within three minutes and reassembling firearms with mechanical precision. His composure proved vital during an academy crisis, where he swiftly repaired a dismantled gun to free an instructor pinned by collapsing debris. Assigned to the bomb squad post-graduation, he endured a shattering blow when Kenji, his closest friend and partner, perished in a bombing. Transferred to Detective Juzo Megure’s unit, Jinpei’s abrasive exterior initially alienated partner Miwako Sato, though her frustration gradually shifted to unspoken affection.

Confronted by a dual-bomb threat years later, Jinpei isolated himself in a Ferris wheel gondola rigged to detonate, using his final moments to text Sato the second bomb’s location. His last message—apologizing for failing to avenge Kenji—left an indelible mark on Sato, shaping her career and emotional resilience.

Academy-era flashbacks reveal Jinpei’s conflicted ethos: scorn for systemic corruption paired with an unwavering belief in justice. He defined policing as a guardian’s oath to duty, rights, and order, bridging ideological divides with Furuya after confessing his father’s ruin. Their rivalry softened into camaraderie, cemented by shared bomb-disposal training and a mutual resolve to shield the vulnerable.

Jinpei’s legacy lingers in Sato’s resolve, Furuya’s tactics, and his Spike Spiegel-inspired aesthetic—a fusion of roguish charm and steely professionalism underscoring his role as a catalyst for sacrifice and solidarity within the series’ core relationships.
