Description
Hamsa is a diminutive god who appears in the anime Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul, having previously been introduced in the first season, Genesis. His most striking characteristic is his appearance: he looks like a small, ordinary duck with bright blue eyes, and he wears a tiny golden crown on his head. Despite his unassuming form, he is in fact the reincarnation of a deity and is responsible, alongside his frequent companion Bacchus, for guiding and managing bounty hunters.

Regarding his personality, Hamsa is good-natured and genuinely cares for the well-being of others. While he shares Bacchus's well-known passion for alcohol, he is considerably more focused and diligent, often finding himself in the position of having to reprimand the larger, lazier god and drag him back to his feet. He does not hold a very high opinion of Bacchus's intelligence, considering himself to be the voice of reason in their partnership. Nevertheless, he is not arrogant and is fully aware that he is capable of making mistakes himself. Hamsa is also notably brave and willing to place himself in difficult or dangerous situations if it means helping his allies and bettering the world around him.

In Virgin Soul, which takes place ten years after the events of Genesis, Hamsa's role continues to be tied closely to Bacchus. Early in the series, he and Bacchus are captured by the gods and taken to Heaven as punishment for not revealing the whereabouts of a character named El, also known as Mugaro. They are locked away in a secluded room, and Hamsa attempts to offer an apology to the angel Sofiel, but his apology is rejected. While imprisoned, he ends up drinking alcohol with the new protagonist, the dragon girl Nina Drango, and Bacchus. The three of them pass out, only to awaken and discover that El has gone missing. Showing his resourcefulness, Hamsa participates in a scheme to trick the gods into releasing them so they can search for the child. He and Bacchus then observe the ensuing chase from their flying carriage, following Nina and El down a dangerous portal to the surface, a journey they manage to survive.

Hamsa's key relationships are defined by his long-standing partnership with Bacchus, which is a central comedic and functional element of his character. He acts as the responsible foil to Bacchus's drunkenness and laziness, keeping the pair in working order. In Virgin Soul, he develops a new, though brief, rapport with Nina, as the three of them share a moment of camaraderie in their imprisonment, bonding over alcohol. His relationship with other divine beings, such as Sofiel, is strained due to his perceived failure to assist them.

Throughout the series, Hamsa demonstrates a few notable abilities. His most unique power is a form of shapeshifting, specifically the ability to instantly inflate or change the size of his own body, sometimes doubling his original proportions. This ability proves to be practically useful, particularly when combined with his natural ability to fly, which allows him to provide essential aerial transport for his allies in critical situations. For example, he uses this skill to fly Bacchus's carriage and to carry fighters like Favaro Leone past Bahamut's projectiles during moments of great peril. Hamsa's development in Virgin Soul is not marked by dramatic personal change but rather by his continued loyalty and bravery. Despite being a minor deity in a precarious political situation, where the power of the gods is waning, he remains a steadfast and resourceful ally, using his wits and unique abilities to navigate the dangers of the new world order and support his companions.
