Description
Aria Futaba is a central character introduced in the second season of Aikatsu Stars!, serving as a student of the elite training ship Neo Venus Ark. She is a young idol in her first year of middle school, standing at 154cm tall, with a birthday on December 24th which makes her a Capricorn, and she has O type blood. Her homeland is the lush, nature-rich country of Finland, where she was raised as part of a large family. Growing up surrounded by forests, lakes, and greenery had a profound impact on her, fostering a deep, almost spiritual connection to the natural world.
Aria possesses a delicate and ethereal appearance that complements her personality. She has puffy tea-green hair styled into low pigtails with blue ribbons and flower-shaped pink accessories, and her large, expressive eyes are a soft lilac color. Her entire presence is often described as fairy-like or overwhelmingly that of a fairy idol, a testament to her pure-hearted and gentle nature. She speaks in a soft, somewhat abstract manner, often referencing the sounds of flowers, wind, and greenery. Her signature phrase involves listening to these rhythms of nature to create a melody.
Her primary motivation in idol activities, or Aikatsu, is joy and the love of performance itself. She has publicly stated her love for Aikatsu and approaches it with a pure, uncompetitive spirit, believing it is something everyone should enjoy together without ranking or hierarchy. This philosophy stems from her upbringing in a natural environment where she developed her talents in a harmonious way. Aria is a prodigy; her performances are famously compared to witnessing the aurora borealis, a natural phenomenon she can manifest on stage when her melody resonates with the sounds of nature. This unique ability, along with her talent for playing the piano since early childhood and her special connection with animals, sets her apart.
Aria's journey is deeply tied to her relationships with other idols. Her most significant influence is Hime Shiratori, whom she has admired since childhood. Hime recognized Aria as a heaven-sent child of Aikatsu and invited her from Finland to Japan. Ultimately, Hime entrusted Aria with her own beloved brand, My Little Heart, making Aria the new muse for the cute-type brand. Another key relationship is with Yume Nijino. They met when Yume was training, and Aria finds being with Yume exciting, as every experience with her gives Aria new energy. She views Yume as an older sister figure.
Aria was scouted for Venus Ark by its founder, Elza Forte. Aria accepted the invitation not out of ambition for fame, but from a genuine desire to learn about different types of Aikatsu from around the world and expand her own horizons. She respectfully refers to Elza as Elza-san, notably not using the formal -sama suffix like most other students. She also quickly became close friends with Kirara Hanazono, who was the first Venus Ark student she got to know on a personal level, and they are often seen together.
While Aria embodies joyful, carefree Aikatsu, her character undergoes significant development when confronted with different ideals. She initially struggled to understand the concept of working hard through painful training or doing Aikatsu to surpass rivals, as she only knew the fun side of being an idol. Meeting Kasumi Mahiru, who represents a serious, effort-driven approach to Aikatsu, challenged her worldview. Aria experienced frustration and regret for the first time in her career when she could not easily match Mahiru's dedication. However, with Mahiru's guidance, she learned that these difficult feelings are proof of genuine commitment, and by overcoming them, one can find even greater joy in Aikatsu. This growth allowed her to evolve her abilities further, eventually obtaining the Jupiter Wing and later upgrading her premium rare dress to a Solar Dress. Her role in the story culminates in her becoming the representative for Finland in the Aikatsu World Tournament.
