Description
Akechi Mitsuhide from the anime Ninja Girl & Samurai Master is a young samurai of noble lineage who serves as a military strategist. She is initially the second-in-command and chief advisor to the powerful Saitou Dousan before transferring her loyalty to Oda Nobuna following a political alliance between the two clans. Recognized as a young genius, Mitsuhide has mastered both literature and combat, skills that make her a formidable tactician on the battlefield. Her noble status is reflected in her distinctive appearance, which includes long violet hair tied with a yellow ribbon, a vibrant blue kimono, and brown heeled boots that set her apart from other characters. She is also known by the nickname Juubei.
Her personality is defined by a strong confidence in her own abilities, which often manifests as a condescending attitude toward those she deems less skilled. Mitsuhide is extremely dedicated to her goals and ambitious, initially driven by a desire to prove her own superiority and restore the former glory of her clan, a dream born from her upbringing. As a descendant of the first Himiko, she lost her father in battle when she was young, and her mother worked hard to secure her education, instilling in her the determination to succeed. This background led to a childhood where she felt ignored by most people except her mother, causing her to become distant and reluctant to form relationships with others. Her cunning nature as a strategist is shown early on when she plots to assassinate Nobuna, viewing it as a necessary step toward her ambitions.
Mitsuhide's role in the story evolves significantly as she becomes a key retainer for Oda Nobuna. Her motivations shift from self-centered ambition to a more genuine concern for serving her fellow clan members. This change is inspired by witnessing how Nobuna values her retainers as family. A crucial relationship in her development is with Sagara Yoshiharu, a time-traveling protagonist whose selfless and idealistic nature initially clashes with her pragmatic and cold demeanor. She sees him as a rival, which contributes to her coldness toward him for much of the series. However, after a traumatic event where she believes he is killed, she rescues and tirelessly nurses him back to health, using her own body to protect him from the cold. This experience deepens her feelings, which evolve into a strong, protective attachment and even romantic affection, though she rarely admits to it openly. Her dynamic with Nobuna is also complex; while she becomes a loyal supporter, there are undercurrents of rivalry, particularly concerning Yoshiharu, and her eagerness to marry him under the guise of being a suitable sacrifice hints at the historical shadow of betrayal that hangs over her character.
In terms of abilities, Mitsuhide is an adept leader and a capable swordswoman, proficient in the Kamisha Shinto style of swordsmanship. She is also skilled in the use of firearms, specifically the tanegashima matchlock rifle. Beyond her combat and tactical prowess, she possesses knowledge of medicine and survival techniques, as demonstrated when she single-handedly treats Yoshiharu's severe injuries while hiding from enemies. Her primary flaw is a tendency to hyper-fixate on her goals to the point of losing sight of interpersonal consequences, a weakness that hinders her ability to cooperate smoothly with others despite her leadership skills. Her character development moves her from a cold, self-serving strategist to a more empathetic and loyal, if still socially awkward, ally whose internal conflict between ruthless ambition and genuine care remains a defining trait.
