Description
Ganzo Alary is a supporting character in the mafia drama 91 Days. He serves as the underboss of the Vanetti Family and is the younger brother of the Don, Vincent Vanetti, making him the uncle to the Don's son, Nero Vanetti. His history in the criminal underworld predates the Vanetti's rise to power, as he was originally a member of the Moreno Family in the town of Lawless. His physical appearance is that of an adult male with blue eyes and short brown hair.

Ganzo is characterized by a short-tempered and easily agitated personality. He is quick to become worked up over various matters, often expressing his frustrations openly, even towards members of his own family. Despite his apparent loyalty and long service to the Vanetti organization, he harbors deep-seated ambitions for power. He secretly conspires to take control of the family for himself, driven by a desire to run the town of Lawless as his own domain, indulging in personal fantasies of good liquor and women. This hidden treachery is a central aspect of his character, presenting a facade of loyalty while plotting against those he is sworn to serve.

His history is deeply intertwined with the tragic event that sets the story in motion. Ganzo was one of the four men responsible for the murder of the Lagusa family. Seven years after the massacre, he is the one who sends an anonymous letter to the surviving son, Angelo Lagusa, using the alias of a friend of Angelo's father to lure him back. The letter lists the names of the other three perpetrators, effectively igniting Angelo's seven-year plan for revenge. This act reveals that Ganzo not only participated in the initial crime but also inadvertently becomes the catalyst for the ensuing retribution.

Ganzo's relationship with his nephew, Nero Vanetti, is complex. He acts as an uncle figure to Nero, but his position within the family creates a subtle undercurrent of tension. He is referred to as uncle by Nero and other subordinates, a title that acknowledges his seniority and familial connection. During internal conflicts, such as the one between Nero and his brother Frate, Ganzo attempts to act as a mediator, though his efforts are ultimately unsuccessful. His standing with the younger generation is complicated further by his personal disapproval of other members, such as Ronald Galassia and Frate, whose methods he dislikes.

In terms of development, Ganzo's arc is defined by the erosion of the security his position should afford him. As Angelo's revenge plot unfolds, the stability of the Vanetti Family is threatened from within. Because of his own role in the past massacre and his secret ambitions, Ganzo exists in a state of paranoia and suspicion. His long-term relationship with the Vanetti family is explored through flashbacks, which show his initial meeting with a young Vincent Vanetti. In these scenes, a younger, more calculating Ganzo is seen recognizing potential in the ambitious immigrant, a decision that would eventually lead to the formation of the powerful Vanetti Family and, ironically, set the stage for his own downfall years later.

Notable abilities include his cunning and his understanding of the mafia's operations. As a veteran criminal and underboss, he holds a position of significant authority within a major crime syndicate, which requires a certain level of strategic thinking and ruthlessness. However, his defining trait is not a physical skill but his capacity for long-term deception and his willingness to betray his own blood to satisfy his ambition.
