Description
Frate Vanetti is a supporting character in the 91 Days anime. He is the youngest child of Vincent Vanetti and the younger brother of Nero and Fio Vanetti.

Physically, Frate has fair skin, blonde hair, and teal-colored eyes with a scattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks. He is generally depicted as being younger than his brother Nero, who is in his early twenties. Frate tends to dress smartly and in an orderly fashion, often wearing a green jacket, a striped waistcoat, and a fedora. As the pressures of his role within the mafia increase over the course of the story, his eyes become noticeably more sullen and dull.

In his youth, Frate was a well-behaved child, noted for consistently attending Sunday Mass, unlike his older brother and his associate Vanno who would often skip it. As he grew older, his personality became defined by a deep-seated resentment toward his brother Nero. Frate perceived Nero as having a carefree and somewhat selfish attitude, yet he felt that their father, Vincent, acknowledged and favored Nero over him. Despite claiming not to desire his father’s love, Frate desperately craves recognition for his own capabilities and for what he does to ensure the survival of the Vanetti family. This insecurity makes him vulnerable to manipulation.

Frate's primary motivation is his belief that the Vanetti family will be destroyed unless they align themselves with the more powerful Galassia family. He is willing to go to extreme lengths to secure this alliance, including agreeing to the murder of his own brother, Nero, to bring peace between the crime syndicates. His actions are not born from pure malice but from a misguided sense of responsibility for his family's future and a bitter conviction that he is more worthy and responsible than Nero.

His role in the story is that of a tragic antagonist and a pawn in a larger game. He is a member of the Vanetti Family but becomes a tool for Ronaldo Galassia, his brother-in-law. Ronaldo, Fio's husband, recognizes and exploits Frate's jealousy and need for acknowledgment. Frate deeply admires Ronaldo, who makes him feel seen and valued, leading him to follow Ronaldo's plan to have Nero killed. This puts him in direct conflict with his brother, creating a central family feud that drives a significant portion of the plot.

Frate's key relationships are fraught with tension and manipulation. His relationship with Nero is the most critical, evolving from a strained sibling rivalry to a violent, life-or-death struggle. They disagree fundamentally on how to deal with their enemies, and Frate's plot to ambush Nero severely degenerates their bond. Despite this, there are glimmers of underlying care between them, as Frate at one point warns Nero to leave town to save him, before later planning his murder. His relationship with his father is distant and defined by a need for approval, while his connection to Ronaldo is one of a manipulator and his puppet. His sister Fio tries to mediate between her brothers, but ultimately fails to prevent the tragedy.

Throughout the series, Frate undergoes a significant and tragic development. Under the pressure of plotting against his brother and the weight of his decisions, his mental state rapidly deteriorates. He becomes a nervous wreck, hunched over his desk and drinking heavily to cope. Ronaldo further exploits this fragile state by giving him drugs, which cause him to become paranoid and even more unstable. His orderly appearance gives way to a disheveled look, with his tie loosened and shirt collar opened. Eventually, manipulated and cornered, he agrees to a final confrontation with Nero. In a duel set up by the series' protagonist, Avilio Bruno, Frate shoots at Nero, but Avilio has previously removed the bullets from Frate's gun. Nero then shoots and kills Frate in self-defense, an act that sends Nero into a deep depression.

In terms of abilities, Frate does not possess any distinctive combat skills. His primary influence within the story comes from his position as a son of the Vanetti don. His most notable capability is a willingness to scheme and conspire for what he believes is the family's good, but his lack of experience and his emotional vulnerability make him easily manipulated by more cunning figures like Ronaldo Galassia. His attempts to act independently are clumsy and ultimately lead to his demise.
