TV-Series
Description
Madarao is a Third Exorcist, a hybrid of human and Akuma created by the North American Branch of the Black Order using a fragment from an Akuma Egg. He formerly served as a member of the CROW division and the European Branch. He is the older brother of fellow Third Exorcist Tewaku and acted as the de facto leader of the Third Exorcists, though he later aligns himself with the Noah Family alongside Tewaku and Tokusa.
He is a young man of medium height, standing approximately 1.79 meters and weighing around 60 kilograms. He has short, spiky hair with a longer portion that falls over his face, and red eyes. He wears a headband adorned with black feathers and two shoulder-length beads tipped with tassels. He is often seen in a red cloak, which is characteristic of the CROW members.
Madarao first appears in the anime during the attack on the Hearst Orphanage, where he breaks through a barrier of magical skulls and absorbs the remaining Akuma, demonstrating his ability to directly consume Akuma without using an Innocence. As a Third Exorcist, he can fight Akuma effectively, but his method does not release the souls trapped within the Akuma, a fact that disturbs Allen Walker. After siding with the Millennium Earl, Madarao gains additional abilities, including the capacity to absorb human bodies and to defend against or redirect attacks made with Innocence.
His motivations are not extensively explored in the anime, but his actions indicate a pragmatic loyalty to the North American Branch initially, followed by a shift toward the Noah Family's side. He maintains a close relationship with his younger brother Tewaku, whom he protects and leads. His role in the story involves opposing the Black Order during the worldwide Akuma assault, working alongside the Noah to incapacitate other Exorcists. Madarao's character development is marked by his transition from a member of the Black Order's experimental forces to an ally of the Noah, reflecting the morally ambiguous nature of the Third Exorcists and the broader conflict between the Order and the Millennium Earl's forces.
