TV-Series
Description
Nico is a 16-year-old American inmate of Nanba Prison, assigned to building thirteen, cell thirteen with three other cellmates. His full name is not given in the series; he is known only by the mononym Nico. He grew up in poor urban areas and was used as a drug mule from a young age. He was arrested for unwittingly buying and selling drugs. His background left him with a unique physiological condition: his body reacts unusually to many substances, making him resistant to most poisons and causing adverse rather than incapacitating effects from many drugs. This condition requires regular medication, which he receives in a pleasant fruit-flavored liquid form at Nanba, a key reason he is content to stay there.

Nico has a cheerful, childish, and highly energetic personality. He rarely takes things seriously and is easily fascinated by almost everything around him, displaying a wide-eyed innocence. He is an enthusiastic otaku with a deep love for anime, manga, and video games. His motivations are primarily driven by a desire for friendship and fun; he deeply values forming connections with his fellow inmates and seeks to enjoy life. He is known for his catchphrase expressing a wish to be friends forever.

His role in the story is that of a main protagonist and a core member of the cell block. He serves as a source of comic relief with his quirky humor and carefree attitude, often lightening tense situations within the prison. Despite his playful nature, he is a capable and strategic collaborator during escape drills and crises, using his wits to help his friends.

His closest relationship is with his cellmate Jyugo, whose more serious demeanor contrasts with Nico's lightheartedness. He is also very close to his other cellmates, Uno and Rock, and the four of them form a tight-knit group. He also has a notable friendship with a fellow inmate named Liang and a guardian-like figure in a prison doctor named Okina, who provides his medication.

Nico's character development primarily revolves around deepening his friendships and learning to trust others. He starts as a seemingly secondary figure but becomes an increasingly integral part of the group's dynamic, with his loyalty and positive outlook proving decisive during crises. His growth is not about gaining new power but about strengthening his bonds with those around him.

Nico possesses a unique ability called Mimicking, which is treated as an illness. He can instinctively and perfectly copy the movements and abilities of people he observes, as if the abilities themselves infect him. For example, he has demonstrated the ability to copy martial arts techniques and Qigong. This ability can be difficult for him to control due to past forced human experimentation. In addition to this, he has exceptional agility and reflexes, which he frequently uses to evade guards. He is not physically strong and relies on evasion, trickery, and a strategic mind rather than direct confrontation in combat. He is also portrayed as a talented musician who enjoys playing the guitar.
