Description
Les Paul is a supporting character in the science fiction anime Scar-red Rider XechS, which is part of the larger Scared Rider XechS media franchise. He belongs to a group of beings known as Substances, entities originating from the Red World, a realm driven by instinct. These Substances crossed into the Blue World, a domain defined by reason, drawn by a genuine fascination with human creations such as music and art. Les Paul resides within the Ryuukyuu LAG defense facility, where he waits in a maintenance area that also serves as his living space. When called upon during battle, he responds to requests from a partner unit known as Vox and performs a process called resonance, which fuses him with a human rider to grant that rider superhuman power for combat.

Les Paul possesses a personality that is both introverted and reserved. He enjoys quiet environments, notably spending time in the library, and tends to keep to himself. He is wary of people he does not know well and can deliver cold remarks to those he is unfamiliar with. This guarded nature may stem from past experiences of being mistreated by others. Despite this demeanor, he is not without depth. He displays a serious and thoughtful disposition, and those who gain his trust find him to be loyal and dedicated to his mission. In battle, he is intelligent and composed, using strategic thinking to contribute to the team's efforts.

His primary motivation is rooted in his loyalty to his chosen partner and his desire to protect the Blue World from the alien invaders known as the Nightfly O'Note. Though he is not a human rider himself, his role is crucial to the functionality of the Scared Rider team. Through resonance, he provides the physical enhancement and combat capabilities that allow the rider to fight effectively. This symbiotic relationship makes him a vital component of the team's strength, even if he operates more from the background than the front lines.

Les Paul's key relationships are with the human rider he is partnered with, as well as with the other Substances who also work alongside the Scared Rider unit. His bond with his rider is central to his role, as their compatibility determines the success of their resonance and their effectiveness in battle. Over the course of the story, Les Paul shows signs of personal development, gradually opening up to those around him as he is drawn further into the shared struggle against the Nightfly O'Note.

His most notable ability is his power to resonate with a human rider, merging their strengths and allowing them to pilot advanced mecha known as Xihe. In this state, he lends his otherworldly power to his partner, enabling them to confront threats that ordinary humans could not face alone. His skills are not limited to combat, as his initial interest in the Blue World was sparked by art and music, reflecting a thoughtful and curious nature beneath his reserved exterior.
