Nova, also known as Alpha Omega Nova, is the deuteragonist of Space Patrol Luluco. He appears as a mysterious and handsome transfer student at Space Middle School, where he becomes a classmate and later the Space Patrol partner of the protagonist, Luluco. His background reveals that he is a Nothingling, a void-like being devoid of emotions, created and controlled by the Blackholeian, a cosmic entity that seeks to harvest the sparkle of planets. Nova is initially characterized by a stoic, almost robotic demeanor, showing little to no conventional human emotion. He speaks politely but with a marked indifference toward others and the missions he undertakes. His primary motivation at the start of the story is to carry out the Blackholeian’s orders: to gain Luluco’s trust and steal her flutter jewel, the source of her sparkle. This leads to a pivotal betrayal in which he takes the jewel, indirectly causing Luluco’s death. However, Luluco’s unwavering love and the intensity of her feelings begin to stir something within him, and he develops genuine emotions for the first time. Overwhelmed by this awakening, he rebels against the Blackholeian and sacrifices himself to protect Luluco. He disappears but promises that they will meet again in a parallel dimension. In terms of abilities, Nova serves as a competent Space Patrol officer, capable of combat and mission execution, but his true nature as a Nothingling allows him to interact with and consume the sparkle of living beings. His key relationships include his deep bond with Luluco, which drives his character arc; his fellowship with the cynical midori and the bombastic Over Justice; and his antagonistic connection to the Blackholeian, whom he eventually defies. Throughout the series, Nova evolves from an empty puppet into a being who recognizes the value of love and chooses to support Luluco’s sparkle rather than extinguish it.
