Description
Kisame Hoshigaki is a shinobi originally from the Hidden Mist Village, where he served as a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. His early career was marked by disillusionment after he was ordered to kill his own comrades during a mission to prevent sensitive information from falling into enemy hands. Later, he discovered that his master, Fuguki Suikazan, was leaking intelligence to other villages, prompting Kisame to kill him and take possession of the sentient sword Samehada. Shortly after, he was approached by a man claiming to be Madara Uchiha, who revealed the Moon Eye Plan. Intrigued by the promise of a world built on truth, Kisame joined the Akatsuki and became one of its earliest members.
Within the organization, Kisame was paired with Itachi Uchiha. Although initially assigned to monitor Itachi for potential betrayal, the partnership evolved into a deep mutual respect. Kisame admired Itachi’s calm intelligence and controlled power, and he remained fiercely loyal to him throughout their time together. He never questioned Itachi’s motives or past, and he acted as a dependable executor of their missions. This loyalty extended beyond death: in his final moments, Kisame chose to destroy himself rather than allow his captors to extract information about Itachi from Samehada.
Kisame possessed an extraordinarily large chakra reserve, often compared to that of a jinchuriki, and he was a master of water‑release techniques. He could create vast amounts of water even in dry environments and could breathe underwater thanks to gill‑like markings on his face. Samehada, his sword, could absorb an opponent’s chakra, transfer it to Kisame, and even fuse with him, allowing him to heal and enhance his power. He could also hide within Samehada to evade sensory detection.
In personality, Kisame was aggressive and relished combat, but he was not reckless. He was perceptive, honest with his comrades, and humble enough to admit when he was outmatched. Despite his brutal methods, he held to a personal code based on strength and loyalty. His disillusionment with the shinobi world gave him a bitter outlook, but his partnership with Itachi provided him with a clear purpose and a figure he genuinely respected. Over time, he developed a dry sense of humor and a pragmatic philosophy that prioritized the mission and the protection of his partner above all else.
