TV-Series
Description
Genichiro Taira is a third-year student and the captain of the Seikan High School soccer team, where he plays as a playmaking midfielder wearing the number ten jersey. Born on April 13 in Aomori Prefecture, his blood type is AB, and he stands 174 centimeters tall, weighing 70 kilograms. His right foot is his dominant one. Outside of soccer, his special skill is iaido, the art of quickly drawing a sword. He enjoys kamakura, the traditional snow huts, but has a strong dislike for fireworks. His favorite motto is the battle standard of the daimyo Takeda Shingen, fūrinkazan, which means as swift as the wind, as silent as the forest, as fierce as fire, and as immovable as a mountain. He also names Arnold Schwarzenegger as someone he respects.

Taira has a distinctive appearance, with brown hair that he typically ties back into a small ponytail and a youthful, almost girlish face. He has carried a complex about this boyish look since childhood, having disliked being called cute when he was younger. Despite his somewhat cherubic features, his physique is notably powerful, with broad shoulders and a strong, muscular build.

In terms of personality, Taira is defined by his overwhelming confidence, which often borders on arrogance. He has a free-spirited and self-assured manner, acting according to his own judgment, yet this behavior earns him deep trust and affection from his teammates rather than resentment. He is fiercely loyal and protects his own, once threatening a coach who proposed a substitution that would have hurt the pride of the team's ace striker, Mayumi Himura. While he can be psychologically imposing and blunt, he also shows respect for the skills of his rivals and is known to offer praise where he feels it is due.

His primary motivation is to lead and protect his team from his position as captain and game maker. He is recognized as one of the Ten Masters, the elite players in the series. His ultimate ambition is to play professionally, and after graduating high school, he is set to join the Kashima Antlers, a top-tier Japanese club, alongside his teammate Hisahito Mizuki.

As a player, Taira is a formidable force on the field. His most notable ability is his exceptional physical strength and core stability, which allows him to shield the ball from multiple opponents and maintain possession under intense pressure, a quality that has earned him the nickname Breeze. He is a powerful and precise passer, capable of delivering balls with the force of a shot that are both difficult for opponents to intercept and easy for his teammates to control. This skill set makes him the perfect engine for Seikan's offense. His strategic mind and ability to read the game are also highly developed, allowing him to dictate the flow of play.

Taira shares several significant relationships. He has an absolute reliance on the ace striker Mayumi Himura, consistently defending him and ensuring he remains the focal point of the attack. He also has a deep connection with the prodigy Hisahito Mizuki, whom he is set to follow into professional soccer at the Kashima Antlers. On the opposing side, he has a notable rivalry with Atsushi Kimishita of Seiseki High School, whom he mentally unbalances during a summer training camp. Kimishita later describes Taira as a player with no weaknesses except for his personality.

Throughout the story, Taira undergoes a subtle but significant development. It is revealed that in his first year of high school, he was a different kind of player, one who would start attacks by himself through solo dribbling. He realized this style prevented him from helping the team defensively, so he made a conscious decision to transform into a playmaker who controls the game and protects the group. This evolution highlights his deep sense of responsibility as the team's core. During a pivotal national tournament match against Sakura High, he recalls this past and makes the conscious decision to break free from the burden of solely being a protector, re-embracing his own offensive instincts to create a decisive play. After this intense match, in a powerful display of his role as a leader passing the torch, he removes his captain's armband, declares that the responsibility for the loss is not solely his, and tells the remaining players that their future is now theirs to create.
