Description
Hoji Konda is an original anime character from the Beyblade Burst series, known for his role as a supportive and loyal blader. He is an eleven-year-old boy in the fifth grade with a birthday on June 24th, making his zodiac sign Cancer. Physically, he has dark brown, curly hair that is cut to ear-length, and dark brown eyes. His typical attire consists of a black-and-red collared t-shirt with an orange undershirt, a pair of blue overalls, and tan cowboy boots.

Hoji is characterized by a gentle, honest, and responsible personality. As the oldest of five children with three younger brothers and one younger sister, he has developed a strong sense of responsibility and gets along very well with younger children. He is a calm and dependable individual, often serving as the voice of reason who can soothe Wakiya Murasaki when his friend becomes frustrated or loses his temper. While loyal to a fault, Hoji sometimes lacks confidence in his own abilities, as seen when he misinterpreted Wakiya's instructions as a lack of faith in his skills. Despite this, he is a determined blader who trains diligently to achieve his goals.

His primary motivation stems from his deep bond with Wakiya. Hoji’s father works for the company owned by Wakiya’s father. Because Wakiya’s father was often too busy to care for him, Hoji’s family helped with the household, allowing the two boys to meet. It was Wakiya who taught Hoji how to beyblade, and they have trained together for a long time, forging a close friendship. Hoji addresses Wakiya with the honorific Bocchan and is intensely loyal, a trait that sometimes causes him internal conflict when Wakiya gives morally questionable orders, such as instructing Hoji to lose a match on purpose.

In the story, Hoji serves as a supporting character, rival, and helper. He is a member of the bey team led by Wakiya and is regarded as the blader whom Wakiya holds in the highest esteem. Hoji first appears seeking guidance at the Beigoma Academy Beyblade club after being disturbed by Wakiya’s command to throw a match. Throughout the series, he faces several prominent bladers, achieving victories against Daigo Kurogami and having a rematch win against him later, but ultimately losing to main protagonists like Valt Aoi and Shu Kurenai.

Hoji’s role extends beyond just a follower; he is a crucial emotional anchor for Wakiya. After Wakiya suffers a significant loss to Shu in the Individual Tournament, it is Hoji who reminds him of the hard work he has put in and encourages him not to give up after a single setback. This speech helps Wakiya recover his spirit and resolve to keep training. He is also shown to be kind and helpful to Valt Aoi’s younger siblings, Toko and Nika, once even helping them rescue a kitten from a tree.

In terms of development, Hoji evolves from a blader who struggles with self-doubt and conflicting loyalties into a more confident individual who is not afraid to speak his mind to support his friends. He shows resourcefulness in Beyblade Burst God, where he devises a strategy for a special match at the Infinite Bey Stadium to help induce an opponent to use a specific move.

Hoji battles using Beyblades themed after Horus, the sky god. His primary Beyblade is Holy Horusd UC, also known as Hyper Horusood Upper Claw, which is an enhanced stamina-type form of his earlier Horusd Spread Edge. He utilizes distinct launch styles, including a forehand grip for a controlled launch and a backhand grip to generate more power. His notable special move is Horusod Field, where the claws on his Beyblade’s driver engage and rotate rapidly to create a powerful vortex of air that can blow an opposing Bey completely out of the stadium. Unlike many other bladers, Hoji is one of the few characters who consistently uses a ripcord launcher.
