Description
Harumi Ayasato, known as Pearl Fey in English-language versions, is a young spirit medium and a member of the branch family of the Fey clan. She is the younger cousin of Maya Fey and Mia Fey, and the daughter of Morgan Fey. Her father left the village when she was young, and she was raised in the isolated mountain community of Kurain Village under her mother’s strict supervision. This upbringing left her sheltered and initially unaware of many aspects of the outside world, such as how to ride a train.

Personality-wise, Harumi is typically shy and evasive around strangers, but once she becomes comfortable with someone, she reveals herself to be friendly, polite, and remarkably clever for her age. Her mother’s disciplined upbringing has made her seem more mature than most children, and she often participates actively in legal investigations. Despite her general composure, she can exhibit occasional childish outbursts, such as bursting into tears when cornered or physically lashing out. Notably, she has a strong, almost violent reaction whenever she misunderstands a situation to mean that Phoenix Wright is romantically involved with anyone other than her beloved cousin Maya. This stems from her deep-seated wish to see them together as a perfect couple, a desire born from growing up surrounded by unstable relationships and frequent divorces within her village. She also has notably poor artistic and fine motor skills, being bad at drawing.

The character’s primary motivation is to protect and support Maya Fey, whom she idolizes and is fiercely loyal to. She dreams of Maya becoming the future Master of Kurain Village, and she believes Maya and Phoenix are destined to be each other’s "special someone". Her role in the story is that of a crucial supporting character who provides invaluable spiritual assistance to Phoenix Wright during his investigations and trials. She first appears during a murder investigation at Kurain Village, where she overcomes her initial fear of Phoenix to give him a key piece of evidence and channels the spirit of Mia Fey to help defend Maya when Maya is accused of murder. Her role expands as she becomes a de facto part of Phoenix and Maya’s family, especially after her mother is imprisoned for her role in a conspiracy against Maya. She later helps Phoenix again when Maya is kidnapped by an assassin, establishing a spiritual communication network by channeling Mia to relay information.

Harumi shares key relationships with several characters. She is extremely devoted to her older cousin Maya Fey, who becomes her primary guardian. She holds Phoenix Wright in high regard as Mr. Nick, trusting him deeply as Maya’s destined partner. Her relationship with her mother, Morgan, is complicated, as she is unaware of Morgan’s murderous ambition to put Harumi on the clan’s throne by eliminating Maya; this leads to Morgan manipulating Harumi from prison without the child understanding the true evil of the plan. Her half-sisters are Dahlia Hawthorne and Iris, though this family connection is not initially known to her. As she grows older, Harumi retains her fundamental kindness and politeness but develops a more independent perspective and a broader curiosity about the world beyond Kurain Village. In her teenage years, she keeps in regular contact with Phoenix and his adopted daughter Trucy Wright, who views her as a big sister.

Notable abilities define Harumi’s role. She possesses prodigious spiritual power that is considered even stronger than Maya’s potential, making her exceptionally talented at the Kurain Channeling Technique. From a young age, she can successfully channel the spirits of the dead, such as her cousin Mia Fey. She also has the ability to charge magatamas with spiritual energy, giving Phoenix Wright the power to see Psyche-Locks, which are visual manifestations of secrets a person is hiding. Her physical abilities are also surprising; her sheltered upbringing initially means she does not know how to use a train, so she simply runs from the mountaintop Kurain Village to the city in an incredibly short amount of time.
