Description
Miyako Ōtori is a sixteen-year-old girl from a wealthy and distinguished family, the Ōtori household. She has long, peach-coloured hair that she usually wears in two pigtails, straight-cut bangs, and light brown eyes. Because her grandfather and the previous head of the Takatori family were close friends, Miyako was once betrothed to Madoka Takatori, with the expectation that she would marry him when she turned sixteen. However, that arrangement is no longer active, and she instead becomes a regular presence in the Takatori household.
Miyako has a gentle, naturally air-headed, and innocent personality. She is a genuine and kind young woman, but she is notably clumsy when it comes to most household chores. Cleaning and general housework are far beyond her skill level, often leading to humorous mishaps. In contrast, she is an expert cook, showing considerable talent and confidence in the kitchen. This skill becomes one of her defining traits within the story. Her motivation appears to be a desire to be helpful and to connect with the people around her, especially after her formal engagement to Madoka fades away.
In the narrative, Miyako serves as a supporting character who brings warmth and light-hearted moments to the daily life at the Takatori mansion. She eventually takes on a role as a maid in the household, wearing a custom-made uniform designed by Madoka, though her cleaning attempts are rarely successful. Her primary role is as a friend and occasional helper to the main characters, particularly Chihiro Komiya, with whom she shares a friendly and supportive bond. She also develops a romantic crush on Keiichirō Shinozaki, Madoka’s loyal and serious assistant, which adds a sweet, understated layer to her character.
Her key relationships include her former fiancé Madoka, whom she treats amicably and without lingering awkwardness; Chihiro, whom she respects for his domestic competence and with whom she exchanges cooking advice; and Keiichirō, toward whom she shows bashful interest. Over the course of the story, she becomes more integrated into the extended family circle, though she does not undergo drastic personal transformation. Her notable abilities centre almost entirely on cooking, where she excels, whereas her lack of skill in cleaning becomes a recurring source of comedy and a contrast with the highly capable young protagonist.
