Description
Miyu's mother is a supporting character in the anime She and Her Cat: Everything Flows. She is a caring and attentive parent who notices her daughter's emotional struggles. After Miyu's family moved to a new town, the girl had difficulty making friends and felt intensely lonely. To help her daughter overcome this isolation, Miyu's mother gave her a black kitten named Daru. This decision was motivated by a desire to provide companionship and a catalyst for new social connections. Shortly after the cat arrived, Daru broke a mug that had belonged to Miyu's late father, which initially caused Miyu to resent both the cat and her mother. However, the mother's gentle persistence and her understanding of Miyu's deeper need for connection allowed the relationship to heal. Over time, Daru became the bridge that helped Miyu befriend Tomoka, a classmate from the next room, and significantly eased the child's loneliness. As an adult, Miyu moves out to live with Tomoka and Daru, and her mother is shown to be relieved that her daughter is taking an independent step. When Tomoka later moves away and Miyu struggles with the pressures of job hunting and living alone, her mother offers support, though Miyu declines it as a way of proving her own capability. The mother's role in the story is primarily seen through flashbacks and brief present-day interactions. She is defined by her perceptiveness, her quiet encouragement, and her willingness to let her daughter find her own path. Her most notable action is the initial gift of Daru, which sets the entire emotional arc of the series in motion. Her personality is warm, patient, and non-intrusive; she does not force her presence but remains a steady source of comfort from the background. Her key relationship is with Miyu, whom she nurtures through a difficult childhood and continues to quietly support during adulthood. She has no abilities beyond those of an ordinary, loving mother, but her insight into her daughter's emotional needs proves pivotal to Miyu's development. While she appears only briefly, her influence is felt throughout the narrative, as Daru himself became a lifelong companion largely because of her intervention.
